Dear Friends,

I've read the information on "VISA run" by Thaivisa, but I'm still unclear.

I plan to apply for a 90-day VISA from Thai Embassy in Singapore and stay in Bangkok for the duration of my VISA. My question is what is going to happen after the 90 days have expired?

The articles says:

<<The rules only apply to those using the 30 day stamp to stay long term. Anyone who has a visa issued at an embassy or consulate outside of Thailand will not be affected.>>

Since I'm not using a 30 day stamp from start, I can do a VISA run to Laos and come back to Thailand for a 30-day stamp ?

Or can I go back to Singapore and apply for another 90-day VISA ? Will the Embassy issue a VISA for another 90-day ?

Thank you.

Dear Friends,

Yes you can enter for a visa exempt entry after using a visa entry.

Yes you can enter and stay up to 90 days in a six month period using visa exempt entry.

Yes you can probably obtain another tourist visa - and perhaps even a 2 entry in Vientiane - but how many times you can do this will be up to the Consulate involved. Penang has stopped providing repeat tourist visas for some recently.

No you can not - there is no Thai Embassy in Thailand and the British Embassy does not issue Thai visas.

You can get married on a tourist visa and stay up to 90 days including the extension of stay - you can also get another 60 day extension of stay one time. If you can meet the 40k baht per month family income requirements you can extend your stay one year at a time at an Immigration office inside Thailand. If you can not do this you can exit Thailand and obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa at most Consulates and Singapore may provide a one year multi entry if you can show 400k in a bank account somewhere.

If you are in the UK you should be able to obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from the Thai Consulate in Hull (by mail or in person) now. Not all Consulates/Embassies have the same requirements. It should only take a couple of days by mail.

If you can show a monthly income of 40,000 baht you can extend your visa for a year at a time at an Immigration Office in Thailand.

If you do not have the funds to extend your stay in Thailand you will have to go somewhere, outside of Thailand, to obtain a new visa. Requirements for issue of visas are subject to change so what is true today may not be true a year from now. Currently very few places in the immediate area will issue more than a single entry non immigrant visa per visit, although there has not been any limit placed on the number of visits at most places.

Thank you. If I understand correctly, I can go to a Thai Embassy in Vientiane to obtain another tourist visa. Does Vientiane give a similar 90-day visa ? What is "2 entry" ?

As for the 40K per month income or 400K bank balance, if I don't have both but I own a couple of condos in bkk, will that be factored into consideration ?

Thanks a lot.

2 entry means that you could use the same visa to enter and exit thailand twice. You could stay for 90 days, then leave, come back and stay for another 90 days. The visa will have an expiration date on it, so you will need to make sure to leave and come back before the date on the visa expires. Remember, you have to make the second entry before date on the visa, not the date on the permitted to remain until stamp you get when entering the country.

The 40K and 400K is for a non-o visa for someone that is married to a Thai person.

A 2 entry means that when your 1st 60 days are up you go over the border and come back again for another 60 days without having to go to an Embassy and get another Visa.

Each 60 day stay can normally be extended for 30 days at an Immigration office near you.

A bit confused.

What you've just mentioned sounds like BACK TO BACK stamp on arrival type of VISA. I thought the new rules were meant to prevent such B2B visa ?

I was at the Thai Embassy in Singapore just now. The Indian lady said I could only obtain a 60-day VISA, and before it expires I will have to go to the Immigration in Thailand to obtain an extension, subject to approval. If I return to Singapore to apply for another 60-day VISA, I would need to stay OUTSIDE Thailand for another 60 days before they grant me another 60-day VISA.

Yes , and if you had gone to Vientanne in Laos they would probably have given you you 2 sixty day tourist visas saving you the bother of going back to the embassy when your first visa is finished. Each one can be extended at immigration in Thailand for another 30 days.

Like what I have just said, the Thai Em in Singapore is prepared to grant me a 60-day VISA only. Thereafter, I will have to stay OUTSIDE Thailand for another 60 days before I will be considered for a 2nd 60-day VISA.

Now lets put all these into perspective. If I get my 60-day VISA from Singapore ("the 1st VISA"), are you saying that I can then go to Vientiane to:

(1) extend my 1st VISA for another 60 days at the Consular (airport or embassy ?), and before my 2nd 60 days expire, do a VISA run to Vientiane so that I can stay for my 3rd 60 days ?

(2) Or before my 1st VISA (obtained from Singapore) expires, go to Consular (airport or embassy ?) in Vientiane to apply for a FRESH VISA for another 60 days, and before my 2nd 60 days expire, do a VISA run to Vientiane ?

Those staff in the Thai Em in Singapore aren't very helpful, so I'm counting on this forum. I hope to stay in Thailand for at least 6 months.

and Back to the 40K and 400K question, yes I understand it refers to marrying a Thai girl, which is what I have in mind. So do they factor in the condos that I own in Thailand even if I don't meet either of the 40K or 400K criterion ?

Thanks a million....

Thank you. Since I'm coming from Singapore it's only normal that I get my 1st 60-day VISA from RTE in Singapore, which is FOC.

So you're saying that I can THEN (before my 1st VISA expires) go to Vientiane to apply for a 2 x 60-day VISA ? Are you referring to the RTE in Vientiane ? Any service in BKK that arranges for such a deal ?

Thanks a million...

When your Visa you got from Singapore is nearly finished go to Immigration office in Thailand and extend it for another 30 days at a cost of 1,900 Baht.

The day before these 30 days are finished you can go to Ventianne and probably get a double tourist Visa that will give you 2 entries into Thailand. Each of these entries are 60 days and can be extended for 30 days at immigration in Thailand.

Buying a Condo means nothing.

No they do not factor in condos or even allow 400k. The requirement is 40k per month family income.

You said 'family income' ? That means including my wife-to-be's income ?

I have 2 units on rental, but in total I'm only getting 31K per month. Is it possible to me to increase the rental (on paper) to add up to 40K ? Will they be happy with the tenancy agreements as evidence ?

Please bear with my lack of understanding...for a little while.

Each entry is 60 days, and Each entry can be extended for 30 days. That is to say, 1st entry (From Vientiane) 60 + 30; and 2nd, another 60 + 30 ?

No they only accept tax payment proof for income earned in Thailand.

I haven't paid any tax on the rental income I earned so far. I've been in Singapore itself most of the time.

How to produce tax payment proof when I don't have a work permit to work and eligible to pay tax ?

You will only have 3 months so you may have to cut first 30 day extension a day or two short but yes that is how it would work. But once you are married you can obtain a one time 60 day extension and be able to obtain non immigrant visas allowing 90 day stays. If you can meet the 40k family (husband/wife/combination) income requirements you can then extend your stay on a yearly basis.
