Hi Guys

I have a marriage based multi immigrant "o" visa which runs out in early February but due to other commitments that I have in Thailand right now, I dont really have time to travel and obtain another one until Late March/April. Is it possible to pay for an extension at my local immigration office which would allow me to then seek an extension of my Multi "O" visa in April instead ??

Thanks for your advice and apologies if this has been asked before

No. They may offer you a 7 day extension, but your visa will expire and will not be extendable in April. Can you not apply for an extension based on marriage now, that will give you a further 12 months with 90 day reporting, you just need to show a joint income of 40,000 baht per month.

Assuming you have a multi-entry VISA (obtained at a consulate outside Thailand) remember that if you do a border hop the day before the 'must enter before' date you will get a full 90 day entry stamp.

dam_n, options pretty limited then. I was hoping I might be able to pay immigration 1900 bht for one of those 1/2 monthly extensions but I guess they only apply to tourist visas right ??

My main problem is that I only have savings of approxiamately 250,000 bht right now, probably 300,000 bht by the end of this month but I am not certain if this will be adequate enough to obtain a new multi "o" from Penang in February. I cannot use the option of 40,000 bht per month income as I do not have a work visa so Iwill use thesavings option instead. If I could hang on until April school holidays then I would have more than enough savings and plenty of time to travel to the most hospitable embasy

Last time I went to Singapore and it was easy....... This time I am a little worried, everything changes so quickly. I am hoping that Penang is hospitable in February if needs arise

I got in in November 2006 and have used all my border hops equally 15 months in total come next month so I dont think thats gonna work for me this time :o

I'm pretty sure Penang will give at least a single entry non-o without any requirement for funds, it certainly can't hurt to apply for a multi, nothing ventured nothing gained.

The problem is that the local rules seem to change at a whim, a couple of years back KL was easy, now not so, actually worse because it seems variable :o

You can obtain a 60 day extension of stay to visit your wife one time under provision 7.23 from immigration at a cost of 1,900 baht and a 4x6cm photo attached to a TM.7 form and submitted with:

2. Copy of applicant’s passport

3. Copy of census registration

4. Copy of the Thai national’s ID Card

5. Copy of marriage certificate or birth

certificate

Cheers Lopburi, thats exactly what I am looking for, a temporary stay of execution so to speak until sometime around April.

Does anyone know what the situation is like in Penang right now ?? I obtained my previous marriage visa through Singapore and it was a breeze, no proof of income or savings needed but nowadays it would appear that you need 400,000 bht in the bank to reapply there.......... is the situation different in Penang right now ?? My savings are growing rapidly every month right now and Iwill have around 300,000 bht in the bank....... will I get by with this much or is the rule stricter there ??

Then get a re-entry permit to keep that 90 day stay alive whilst you leave Thailand for business.

Sorry, little confused here

I originally got the multi "o" in November 2006 and have made 4 border hops to Burma which gave me 15 months in total. My next visa run is in February but I have to reapply for a new multi "o"....... are you saying I can get another 90 days just by leaving the country on my old multi "o" ??

No. Your Visa would have expired November 2007. You already got the extra 90 days Crossy was refering to.
