Tot Sucks! Cannot Connect Dial Toll Free International Numbers

I use TOT for landline telephone & ADSL internet connection. no problems, with ADSL.

However if I attempt to call a toll free number in US. always get a recorded message saying that number is not active and to call tot office at 1100.

Called 1100 to ask why cause I know for a fact the toll free numbers I was dialing were not inactive. I was told by their 'help" line that their system will not allow customers to dial toll free numbers. Think this is true about toll free numbers anywhere in the world.

What are they afraid of? Losing a few satang in revenue? Cheap motha's.

Anyway next question. trunk calls or long distance international calls. Any one know how the call charges are divied up between the Thai phone company and the phone company in the call destination country? International treaties involved or just business agreements between the Thai company and foreign counterpart?

Have you tried going thru AT&T USA Direct. Their Thai number 001 999 11111. It's a free call and I use it to then dial the toll free 800 number for my US calling card but it may work for other 800 numbers.

One point I'm not positive about is that maybe 800 numbers are not all the same and some will not accept calls that originate from overseas at the option of the owner of the number.

use skype or another voip service like the rest of us does :-) or dial 009 or 008 before the number ...

You can't direct call a US 800 number like 001 1 800 xxxx....! But if you use a VoIP like Skype you can!

You sure can direct call a US 1-800 number using 001 if you have True as your provider. You will get a short recording that the call is not toll free - if you do not hang up it will be connected and you will be charged the normal amount for calls to the US.

For those 800 numbers that support international calling you can use the toll free access number (as in post 2) to dial them but you need to know who supports the number you are calling.

That's right and you've to pay! But the OP was talking about Toll Free Numbers and NOT paid one even if the number is within the US Toll Free.

Only until the access number of the VOIP is blocked by the receiving end. Have had that happen where a Bank received too many calls from the same US access number and put a block on it.

As mentioned if the business allows international calling you can use the providers access number to make your calls. But you need to know the provider as they don't help each other out on that.

VOIP is the best deal for most uses - but even paying for the call is not that bad in most cases.

Lot's of crazy answers here, as usual...

With a TOT fixed line dial 009 1 800 nnn nnnn, and wait for the Thai and English announcements about how you will have to pay for the call, your call will then ring through. You will pay 6.42 THB/min.

If you have One-2-Call pre-paid you can dial the same string, 009 1 800 nnn nnnn, and pay the same amount.

(This works for all 8xx toll free numbers, and any area code in the U.S.A.)

You can dial 001 1 800 nnn nnnn but you will pay 9.63 THB/min.

All these work from my TOT fixed line (02 25n nnnn; 107 THB/month), also provisioned with CSLoxInfo 1024/512 ADSL (1,070 THB/month).

Suspect the OP has other issues, either with some sort of block on the account which might prevent international calling, or is not dialing the correct string, or is not waiting for the announcements to finish?
