I recently found a long-forgotten Nikon N8008 with a 50mm Nikkor lens and clip-on flash in a cabinet in my house.

How much does a roll of film cost, and how much does it typically cost to develop and scan it these days?

are u asking about buying color film or costs for developing and printing?

I shoot Kodak color 35mm asa 100 and a roll of 36 runs about 150 baht. develop and small prints about 200.

Black and white>>> You have to try and find the film in bangkok, am sure some places over by Victory monument has it.

buy film, develop and scan on cd; about 250 baht.

fuji kodak etc all film from cz.

fomapan is a bit more expensive and not many shops in small cities can develop it. Not to speak of scanning. same for diafilm.

The scan idea is a good one.

B&W developing is an easy home job,

provided you have the tank. :o

The cost can be divided to the cost of film and the cost of processing and printing.

If you live in Bangkok the film is cheap especially the color negatives, about 60-160

baht per 36-exp roll, for B/W the price will be from 90-200 baht. The best place to

buy is Ladprao intersection area where there also are several processing labs. These

labs are willing to do the processing of your exposed film and also print or scan at

a very reasonable cost. I don't know much about scanning since I do it myself at

home but it is common practice that these lab usually provide free CD with

scanned pictures if you have them print at least 30 pics (3x5 or 4x6 inch size) from

the same roll. If you have the prints enlarged more than that they won't give you

that free disk. And for the bigger print you just browse the facade of their shops

the promotion price of enlarging print are usually displayed there. For example,

10x15 in print will cost no more than 30 baht, very cheap.

If you want to do B/W seriously you need to do it yourself. That's differernt story.

B/W proceesing and printing are very expensive, you have to set up your own

darkroom, buy chemical, paper...... very time-consuming.

I have my own darkroom and I shoot mostly B/W in 35 mm and medium formats

I can help if you need more info..........

Slightly off topic, but related I believe,

the other day in one of the thai news papers, I can't remember which one, there was an article about one of the Japaneese owned film companies that was going to hault production of film due to the low demand for camera film products.

so, im guessing as time goes by and a few more of these companies decide to pull out of this are, prices may rise. anyway, sorry for the sidetrack.
