Multiple Re-entry Permit: Period Of Validity?

I am currently in Thailand on a non-immigant B visa, with 'permission to stay' until August 2008. I am about to leave the country for the first time, and am debating whether to go for a single or multiple re-entry permit. If I go for a multiple, would they match the expiry date to my visa? I'm not sure I'll make enough trips out before August to make it worthwhile.

Also, my employer has informed me that there are new rates for re-entry permits -- B 2000 for a single entry, B 5000 for a multiple. I can't seem to find anything about this on this forum (although it's possible I totally missed it -- apologies in advance if that's the case) or the Thai Immigration Bureau site. Has anyone else heard this?

The date of a re-entry permit - single or multi entry - will always be the current permitted to stay until date in your passport.

Have not heard of any such increase in fees.

I obtained a re-entry permit for 1000 baht about three weeks ago at Suan Plu. No signs then of any increase.

The multi re-entry permit I got from Suan Phlu last year was 3,800 baht and took around 30 minutes.

The time could be shorter or longer depending on the length of the queue.

Agreed. I got the 3800 baht multi last week.

Thanks to everyone for the input and advice. It sounds like the fee hike was indeed misinformation -- but I'm going to go to Immigration in the next day or two, and will report back on the off chance that a change may be underfoot!
