Oh yeah, Mr.Chuan, the man solely responsible for the SE Asia crash of '97.

:D yelling the secret message into the silent forest, uh?

...you haven't done your homework! But after all it's only a forum.... :D

:D

One man solely responsible for SE Asia crash, I nearly spat out my lunch. Poor Chuan, he wasn't even in power when it happened. :o

Anyway, back to Thaksin now, I'm sure that he's done a deal as there is no way that he would have come back if he thought he was going to be found guilty.

Agree or not agree. SEA crash start to snowball in 92, when Chuan is in power. That is why so many people regard him as the the man soley responsible for it. Chavalit guilty only for not quickly undo what Chuan did. But politics is always dirty, not only in Thailand. The most successful one is the one who can hide the most truth.

oh, go on, spoil us...

what did chuan do in 1992 that was the beginning of the end?? When I said 'do' I mean, apart from the fact that he was PM at the time, what policies did he implement, what were their effects, and how did this lead to rich thai's borrowing offshore at low interest rates to invest here in thailand?

Go on, knock us all out. You sound like you know what you are talking about...not.

If you don't want to listen to other people opinion, don't.....

That opinion is not from me, but rather in general how ppl sees it.....

You sound like you do not know what you are talking about .... you are.

I don't know anyone who blames Chuan's government for the 1997 crash. Please explain what you mean by this. What did his government do that lead to the crash?

you've made an accusation, not backed up by factual evidence.

I am more than happy to listen to your opinion, if you'd let me know what it is, and why it is so. So far, all you have said is that it was all Chuans fault, given that he was PM in 1992. OK fine, it is Chuans fault, but why is it his fault?

Evidence, evidence, evidence, as Dear Leader Thaksin will no doubt be asking prosecutors in the supreme court.

At home in the US this hasn't even made the tickers on the bottom of CNN, FoxNews Channel, or MSNBC.

These are the headlines:

LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) -- A gunman fired into a crowd of children and adults at a South Los Angeles bus stop just after schools let out Wednesday, wounding eight, authorities said.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (Associated Press) -- A man killed his ex-girlfriend's current boyfriend, her mother and two other people, then killed himself after police caught up with him in a rural area, authorities said.

From the headlines here you don't need a despot to kill the citizens, we kill each other.

How unusual that Top News Stories in the US are dominated by Gun Crime !! :o

Who were the 2 Man Satay Players that travelled with him, i don't recognise either ?

Of course there are thousands of supporters. They are like his paid fan club.

In so far as....they are organised by event organisers, many are paid and they get a nice trip to the city.

Exactly the same as the first flight to the new airport prior to him getting kicked out of power (yes, I was sadly there right behind the great man, as we listened to the paid mob from Udon I think it was that time, chanting 'Thaksin su su').

They came....because they were bused in 8 hours to enjoy a day at the new airport where most will never fly to or from.

Yes, there are thousands who love him enough; millions in fact, who love him enough to welcome him home. Good for him.

There are also millions who want to see a fair trial.

Anyone who thinks that there is no evidence the TRT were guilty, and specifically Thaksin and his family were guilty, or personal illegal enrichment during the TRT years needs their f&*King head read. Coup or no coup, the evidence is fairly complete to at least suspect and go to trial. Whether the key witnesses and judges can be swayed.....well to say he is not guilty of anything is about on par with saying that Chalerm's sons have never done anything wrong as they never seem to get found guilty.

Or are you going to do a 'Jutamas' and claim that even though an American court of law virtually accuses her of receiving a bribe, that she is in fact completely not guilty????! 555555555555555555555555555555555

''If you don't want to listen to other people opinion, don't.....

You sound like you do not know what you are talking about .... you are.''

- even the most ardent TRT/PPP backbenchers i know have never said anything like this - they have said Chuan was inept, that he was too honest to trust his cabinet, that he was too stupid to communicate well - but I have never ever heard a single person ever suggest such a thing!

my favourite has always been the TRT claim that they sold out to the evil foreigners.....then TRT promptly got into power and sold off everything they could lay their hands on....they would have also sold off TOT and CAT and EGAT if they could have. to themselves, to foreigners...whoever. Thai rak Thai indeed....more like Thai ruk kwai.

At least the kwai had a nice trip to the new airport today ;-) to greet his new master. Had a good time Chalerm????!

I believe in the Thai justice system, especially the court system. Normally in justice systems everywhere, a person is innocent until proved guilty.''

Does this mean he will be kept in Shackles until his trial? Will he have to go to the pointing room?

In 20 years in Thailand I've seen only: "Normally in justice systems, a person is guilty until proved innocent." Maybe the Thaksin quote is for rich people only. A justice with 2 speeds.

I do not mess with politics in Thailand, but here I am totally puzzled.

Look at the way some poor guy is paraded by the police for a small crime ...

I guess one needs to have stolen some real big money to be treated with so much respect !

Those who only stole some thousand(s) Baht do not deserve any respect, this one who stole tens of million deserves the respect he is shown ...

They voted for him because they are uneducated, they voted for him because they were paid to, blah, blah, blah.

Time to change the record.

It's true though.

No it's not.

You really believe that Thai people are stupid, you really believe that a bunch of farangs, who (short from becomming Thai) have no rights to run for office or to even vote know better ?

I don't like Thaksin one bit, but the fact is that he is very popular among a very large group of voters, vote buying has nothing (or very little) to do with that.

Indeed time to change the record, the sounds is awwfull.

I would think that many TV members would like to see him back as long as he rolls back the changes in the immigration laws.

From the look of his return you know he has to have some great PR people. I can picture them playing "Wind Beneath My Wings" in the background.

People, remember that Thaksin is facing no legal charges against him. The allegations by the Generals in the junta-appointed ASC are a complete farce to justify the pillaging by the military in the last 19 months. Not that Thaksin didn't do anything wrong; everyone does something wrong. But with enemies like Thaksin has, he can't be all bad!

a brave man .
A brave man !! I don't think so. He wouldn't have come back in a million years if he wasn't sure the deck was already stacked in his favour. To think he'd risk a long term in jail by coming back here is foolish thinking in my view.

Agreed,

He's a lot of things but stupid isn't one of them.

If there was even a slight semblance that he would be in a cell for any length of time he wouldn't come anywhere near.

Now he may certainly may be detained, but it'll be a five star detainment. :o

If Thaksin became prime minister again and passed laws that enabled Farangs to own land and did away with many Visa regulations, would the Members of this Forum be slagging him off ?

If he made your life a little easier you would think he was a great man, cos Thai Farmers thinks that, you call them stupid.

vote buying is the point of the story. Without vote buying PPP would not be in power. If you want to tell me that they would have also elected them without money, that would mean that PPP paid hugh amounts just for fun???

He stepped outside and kissed the ground for the cameras. :o

oscar.jpg

A performance worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Now I know why he kept repeating he feared for his life in the last few days.

There was talk of missing firearms amongst reporters at the airport, a rumour surely planted by his team and broadcast by TITV or whatever it has become.

The Thaksin soap continues by playing the sympathy card.

Definitely, the kissing of the ground for camera is a performance that deserves nomination for Oscar.

The two movies that can be attributed for nomination are:

1) The Return of Al Capone.

2) The Pope.

Last time I looked, they have full rights to vote, are you suggesting that these people should loose that right ? Pretty scary thoughts.

And I'm sure they are not all uneducated. Of course I guess it would be a convenient way for you to explain his popularity.

Time for a reality check.

You hit it on the head. When it comes to politicians the vast majority of people think about one thing and one thing only: What can they do for ME, what can they do to make MY life easier. If you are honest with yourself that is all that matters.

Of course Taksin bought votes - or, more correctly, he bought the popularity which in turn obtained the votes for him.

Previously politicians have used both personal popularity coupled with actual Vote-buying at election time - using their own money which the expected to recoup once they were elected.

Taksin developed and perfected a scheme to use public money to fund ridiculous populist policies, most of which were clearly unsustainable and indeed damaging, designed simply to win personal popularity - the 30 Baht Medical Scheme, Baht 1 Million Village Funds, Debt Moratoriums ..... the list goes on.

He had little need to spend his own money to buy votes - he used Government budget.
