My mother was born in England. when she was 19 she married my American father at the end of WW2, moved to America and i was born in America, basically a war baby. My mother has become an American citizen only a few years ago to make sure her SS and services would get to her OK. i am now living in Thailand as a retiree.

My question is, can i get a British passport with proof my mother was an English citizen [and still may be, don't know] for 70 years +-. my mothers family still lives in England. If so what documents do you require?

thank you for your help

Unless your mother had you very late in life, you cannot claim British citizenship. If you had a British father instead of a British mother, then maybe you could. I am in the same situation. My British mother came to the US in 1960. I was born in the US in 1963 with a US father. I cannot claim British citizenship because at the time, it only mattered if your father was British, a mother being British did not count.

vinny's link seems to rule me out for the second requirement because my mother did not work for the UK government and I was born in the US, which is not a commonwealth country, where I got US citizenship.
