Isn't This Called Discrimination

So do you think it's fair that the OP has been a member for many years and when someone never been there before walks in with different colored skin, they get a better deal? That is just wrong.

Blah, blah, blah....This is right, this is wrong...this is fair, this is unfair.

Get real. This is not your country and they do things their own way here whether you like it or not.

Tony offers great value for money at either price. In the end it's what you pay that counts.

If you're a serious trainer you don't have many choices of good places to train. Take it or leave it.

I have to admit to finding this whole post baffling. If you have been here 10 years & don't know about the B------t re all pricing , then you must live in a cave on the darkest side.

It is Pattaya , watch the prices rise as the sales fall on most things , that is the local mentallity.

Picked up some brochures for property last week , the property ads have new stickers on the old pamphletts with increases ranging from 500,00 to 900,00bht per unit.

Reality takes a while in LOS , BUT, if you chose to live here ..

.WHAT THE hel_l ARE YOU BITHCHING ABOUT ????? Just think of where you left !!

Nicely put! You've summed it up well.

Just don't use such a sh!tty gym!

I do not understand why people at all use a gym, you can walking, jogging and swimming (if near a beach), its all free, even in Thailand!

You joined up just to say that.

Walking, jogging and swimming will never replace resistance work.

Go away!

1. Power shrugs at 500. I used to do olympic lifting when I was younger, so these are no trouble at all. Deadlifts 400. Squats 330. Bench 300. These are weights for at least 5 reps - I don't do singles. I've cut back recently due to some injuries and as you say I'm no spring chicken.

2. Basjke is talking about Hammer Strength machines. They only have Hammer Strength equipment at Soi 16.

4. It's not iron rust. It's oxidation of other metals in the alloy and doesn't come off in your hands. I can spend 1 hour training with these olympic bars and came away with clean hands.

Soi 16 does membersips at 3999 per year, so it's unlikely you'll get a better deal at California Wow...and it's open 24 hours. There's no point debating the cost of life memberships because we have no idea how long any of these gyms will stay open.

1.very good ,are these full r.o.m for squats and bench press and no cheating as thats very good...at your age watch your joints as they get worn out as u get old.

2.i think you will find they have a few old hammer machines at exzyte tonys, they use to paint them while you are working out with the aircon off...wasnt pleasant. (maybe you should take a look as you might be wrong for once in your life,if you could cope with that or maybe realise other people have different experiences to yours)

4. rust ,oxidition, dirt whatever ,like basjke i have experienced dirty brown hands and also silver paint on hands where they have painted the dumbells grips.........you havent coz as you said you train at soi 16 that has equipment that is only a few yrs old and not aprox 10 yrs old or more.i thought we had established you 2 are using different tony gyms!!!

the exzyte tonys is now overpriced in pattaya for what it is and the soi 16 is underpriced .....price is low as it struggled to get enough customers .it seems like a pretty good location for tourists though.

while cal wow wont do a single year for 3999(dont think many can go that cheap for a year but casa praetoria(sp) isnt far off i think) but cal do offer some very good deals if you get it.....10k for 3yrs aint bad,and they should be open till at least then.

If tonys main gyms matched cal gyms deals then he would find himself a lot richer/busier and would have caused cal to struggle a lot more!!! up to him,i took my cash elsewhere and see a lot of ex tony members there too

I do full ROM with a pause at the bottom for deadlifts, squats and bench press. You will not see stricter execution of these exercises anywhere...which essential to limiting damage to my joints which are aging on cue for my age.

I could have done without your sarcasm, but I have trained at the old Tony's gym on quite a few occasions and don't recall any Hammer Strength machines in there (My membership includes the use of all the gyms). I'll take up your challenge and pop in there to confirm who is correct and will apologize if I'm wrong.

I've never had "dirty brown hands" after training at any of Tony's gyms and my workouts are usually 2 hours long and conprise mainly of DB and barbell work.

We haven't yet established that Basjke and I are using different gyms. It's a theory until we hear from him or find out for sure if the old gym has Hammer Strength machines.

The price of Tony's memberships changes with the season. I believe Tony's (exzyte) charges 6000 per year for most of the year. I got 6000 per year for all 4 gyms. It's amazing that anyone could come along and say that is overpriced.

I wouldn't be so confident that your new gym will be open for 3 more years. Good luck!

"Stupied" to pay for what? A gym membership?

I would say jogging without resistance training is "stupied". Running and jogging are very catabolic activities. If you don't know what that means, look it up.:D

We haven't yet established that Basjke and I are using different gyms. It's a theory until we hear from him or find out for sure if the old gym has Hammer Strength machines.

At the time of my OP,about a year ago, I was training at tony's xzyte.Trained there for 3 years and never used any other of tony's gyms. And yes they have the high row hammer strength machine among some others. But as I said previously they and many other equipment were almost falling apart.

Thanks for the confirmation and my apologies as we have been discussing different gyms.

Although my membership covers all of the Tony's gyms, I now train only at Soi 16 and I don't really like the old Tony's gym much...mainly because it is too small and cluttered for the amount of equipment in there. I also find the rubber db's too bulky and unwieldy.

If my gym choice was only between that gym and Wow I would perhaps make a different choice.

This is meant as an open letter to Mr Tony, who is assumed to be a member of this forum, but I invite everyone to post their opinion.

I am a member of Tony's gym for several years but my membership is due to renewal. As I see daily the advertisements through pickup's and billboards for a lifetime membership at 14.999 baht I decided to take one.So up I went to Tony's fitness, the one with the pool, with my 14.999 baht and applied for a lifetime membership.

The staff overthere told me that this price only was for thai people and that the foreigner price was 19.999 baht.I told them that I lived in Thailand for over 10 years, had a company and paid taxes and carried a thai driver licence so in my opinion was entitled to the thai price. Also told them that if I showed my thai driver licence at the entrance of national parks or at underwater world I would presumably be charged the thai price. They went up to the manager, who is Mr Tony's brother, with my reply but returned with the message that they could not serve me at that price.

Later on I had the opportunity to talk with Tony's brother personally and asked him why Tony's had this policy. He told me that this was called marketing.I never knew that discrimination was a form of marketing and told him that if someone would do this in the western world they would face legal issues at least.Again he told me that this was their marketing strategy and that less then 20 % of their customers were thai.

All of Mr Tony's businesses are aimed at foreigners so doesn't he forget that it is us who made him to what he is today? Why bite the hand that feeds you?I also know that Mr Tony and many members of his family lived in the US and Europe for a considerable time so I wonder if they ever were threated with the same attitude when abroad.

I sincerely hope this topic is read by Mr Tony or is forwarded to him and that he will personaly respond at it on this open forum. In the mean time please post your opinions. :o

It is marketing many companies in the west have duel pricing polices and offer different customers flexiable deals your view is very shallow and I think borne of your dissappointment in not being able to wrangle a deal

So do you think it's fair that the OP has been a member for many years and when someone never been there before walks in with different colored skin, they get a better deal? That is just wrong.

Again happens in the Uk regulary examples many teleocms companies will offer new deals that exclude exsisting customers again it is market forces at work if you don't like it you can go elsewhere, their is no cartel concerning Gyms in Pattaya

hmmm......i dont think the uk telecoms put the price up if you are not originally from uk .....do you think they tell the pakistanis or bulgarians they have to pay more coz they aint got a british passport??? in a gym a person takes up the same space so should pay the same price.Nobody has any problems with them changing prices and deals as long as its the same for all.

ok have we now established you talking about different gyms!!!

check out the hammer row,2 seated hammer chest presses and if i remember correctly there are 2 more chest presses(incline i think),the hammer shoulder press etc.......also if you havent been there for a long while then you will see it has been extended by moving the old boxing ring and making the gym larger.

as to my comment of this gym being overpriced.....i did say for pattaya as all the gyms here are great value compared to home country gyms. Can go to your gym which is newer, cleaner and cheaper than tonys xzyte branch and can go to Cal and other newer gyms so i standby xzyte gym is overpriced for what it is...old,dark,dirty and run down compared to his others. you got a good price but you must be lucky as they dont offer(or didnt) use of all tonys gyms for 6k.....at the time i got use of only xzyte for 6k and that was discounted down to that.

by the way well done on your good technique with those heavy weights(the testosterone you using cant be one of the fakes available)

i look forward to my apology though.............maybe when it snows in pattaya!!!!

I pay more than 12k per year and am laughing so for a life time memebership one must assume it a price leader and there will be a string or two. OP remember if it sounds too good to be true then it typically is.

glad you happy with your 12k a year gym! when gyms offer life membership there are no strings etc, they normally do it as a promotion to get cash quickly, they expect 80 percent not to be even using the gym within a few months!!! i know a guy who paid for lifetime membership 6 months ago and aint used it once yet.....these are the customers they like the most.

Well I got lifetime for 15.000 baht and haven't detected any strings yet after 8 months. Also don't worry too much that it goes broke anytime soon as they are still opening places all over thailand and Cawow is jointly ownned by Mc Donalds thailand, coca cola thailand and major cineplex.Which in my eyes are quite some big players.

I think you are wrong about this one Rob.My experience is that a Thai mostly occupies a fitness machine 5 times longer as a farang while he is chatting on his mobile.

It's very hard to apologize to a sarcastic smartass, but here goes.....Sorry! :o

The last time I trained at Tony's near ezyte was about 9 months ago. Has it changed since then?

Have you been getting fake test?

WOW...... i nearly dropped my protein milkshake!!!

sarcastic? ..yes,as always! smartarse?....i like to think so

i dont think it has changed in the last 9 months as boxing ring moved a while back and had hammer machines a while too so dont know why you didnt notice if you went 9 months ago.........maybe alzheimers ???(yes sarcasm again)

no i havent been getting any fake test ,havent been getting any test......im a natural trainer.................................at the moment!!!!

just to let others know who want to compare gym prices then Cal is offering memberships for 1 year for 7k baht, i still agree with you tropo that your tony gym is the best value but i think the xzyte has had its day especially as there are new kids on the block.
