Hello;

Does anyone use a back-up program that they are happy with?

I have been using Acronis but it doesn’t work any more. Not sure if the version is too old or what the problem is.

What Acronis type back-up program works everytime?

Laptop or desktop?

If a laptop, I think the ultimate backup is to purchase a matching or larger hard drive, enclose it in an external case and use Acronis True Image to clone the drive on a regular basis. If in the sad event you suffer a catastrophic HD failure, you simply remove the external from it's case, plug it into your laptop and you are totally back up with everything running fine within minutes.

The same program can be used to install a new drive. Simply clone from the old to the new and install it.

A desktop is a little trickier but not much. Install the new drive on the same cable as the existing one in the CPU and go for it. Once cloned, you should disconnect the backup drive so you are not booting up with two bootable drives in the system. Simply remove the cable and power connections and leave it in the mount.

I don't think there is any safer backup than having a spare hard drive that is an exact match of the one in your computer.
