A friend has dealt with a couple of rude and not particularly helpful doctors regarding eczema, and I was wondering if anyone knows (or has a thai friend/partner that knows) of a good skin specialist

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

There's a clinic in Soi opposite Chaung puk gate About 4 yards pass Queen Vic Tel 053-214318 Can't remember his name but he lectures in uni during day. Recomended by Ram hospital as best in Thailand.

There's a skin clinic that also doubles up as a vd clinic on the same road as Kasem's - I've seen a few others dotted about around Chiang Mai. There's also the Mugkala traditional chinese medicine place on Ratchamanka rd, Chinese herbal medicine seems to work pretty well in clearing up cases of eczema.

Just in from the "Skin & Beauty" Clinic at Lanna Hospital.

They couldn't help me on the beauty side, but they gave (sold) me some nice cream for the anti-skin-cancer. (I apologies but there goes that word again - cancer.)

Fast efficient service at Lanna. Give them a go. Almost no waiting, plus decent English.

OK two possible places. The first would be our main recommendation (and it is very popular with Thai people ... waiting room always overflowing). Start at Mike's Burger shop beside the moat. Now cross the bridge over the moat and head left along the road beside the moat .. maybe 30 metres along.

The second we saw advertised a while back in 'CityLife' and they are in Nimmenhemin Rd. about half way along and on the 1st floor of a building. They offer a free consult (which we took) but then the treatments are very expensive. I laughed when the missus told me how much. We didn't go back. But they did look very professional. I would suspect very much aimed at the expat market.

Hope this helps

Yes indeed, the main recommendation above is Dr Siri and he has an excellent reputation. Plus he has first class surgical skills should anyone ever need a suspicious mole or lump biopsied (I can vouch for that).

The waiting room usually clears very fast, mostly young teenage girls collecting prescriptions.

As with all medical recommendations, there are opposing views.... I was suffering from a reoccurring rash and this doctor was recommend to me too. He called it eczema and gave me two different greasy pastes and one bottle of lotion telling me to apply three times a day and refill as needed because I may never be free of this problem unless I maintained the grease and lotions for life.

I used for a week with no positive results other than large grease spots on my clothes, went the my local pharmacy where the young lady prescribed antihistamine tablets. The rash cleared right up as long as I was taking the pills, but returned when I stopped. I went to Mungkala, where the doctor prescribed two weeks of herbal mudballs, (I can't think of a better way to describe these pills,) which after three or four days cleared up the rash and it never came back. I finished the medicine like a good little patient, and have not been bothered with this problem since! :o

I am having a difficult time locating Dr. Siri's office. Can someone help me out? If standing in front of the Montri Hotel (facing the hotel) I know it is to the right - away from the direction of Black Canyon coffee. But how far past the Montri Hotel? Is it past the Wat or between the Montri Hotel and the Wat? A pharmacist wrote for me in Thai what to look for on the sign, but I don't see anything that looks like a medical clinic on that block. I called a phone number I found somewhere for Dr. Siri hoping for directions and it was the wrong number. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Four yards past Queen Vic isn't anywhere near Chang Pheuk Gate is it? Anyway, is it on the same street as Queen Vic? thanks

wayfarer are you referring to Dr. Siri? Others posted on the thread he is on Moon Muang near Tha Phae Gate. 2 Pharmacists on Ratchadamnoen say he is right there on Moon Muang but difficult to locate. I'm a little confused. Maybe you were referring to another post.

Past the Wat but before the street that runs down to the Irish Pub. Just a little past the Wat if I recall correctly. Evenings only, you can get a number 4-4:30 and come back about 6 to avoid the waiting.

Gees, you don't sound very adventurous mate. Cant walk down the street a few hundred metres & look for a clinic?

It's a massive 213 metres from the Montri to the clinic.

I am quite adventerous and found it just fine mate, but thanks for going to all the trouble of making the nice little Google map. Hopefully it will help some others. I did not find it the first couple of times because I didn't know the office does not open until 16:30 and the metal roll down door covering the front window makes it impossible to distinguish that it is a medical office when the roll down door is closed.

Dr. Siri is very nice and very knowledgable and took care of me (laser surgery using state of the art laser) that same evening. Very highly recommended.
