Sprained Ankle

Featured Replies

Is it better to use a icepack or soak in hot water for a swollen ankle?

RICE for your ankle will help.

Rest

Ice

Compression

Elevate

Get well soon

If it was me I would use cold

R - rest
I - ice
C - compression
E - elevation

In fact heat might increase swelling.

Ice for the first 48 hours. Heat after that time period.

Just what the Dr ordered!

Thanks for all the help. Almost back to normal and tomorrow, Saturday, I may get back to my walking exercise routine of 1 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour in the evening.

 • 2 weeks later...

if you can walk normally 1.5h a day 2 days after the injury - than it wasn't sprained ankle. Normally it takes several weeks

No, I couldn't walk normally 2 days after my injury. After the first week I was going to try to get back to my 1 1/2 hour walking routine. Actually I had to wait 2 weeks and today, Monday 31 March, I did 1 hour this morning and 1/2 tonight. Still a little pain and walking down steps I have to take one at a time. Going up, no problem.
