Check your provider but 009/008 as a prefix gives you a rate around Bt6-8 with 007 being about Bt10 a minute without an access number. There must be calling cards but for convenience I just use the mobile and then when home you can skype.

Simplest things are the 009 (CAT) and 007/008/002 (TOT) services.

i.e. Standard international call from Thailand to UK is 001 44 (or +44 on a mobile), and costs 18 baht/min.

Do 009 44, and it's 7 baht/min (from mobiles, True, or TT&T lines)

(if you have a TOT line, I think the number's different).

TOTs 007 is, I think, 9 baht/min, and 008 and 002 are both 7 baht/min.

Obviously, given 3 of these services charge the same amount, you can tell how well the "market" works in Thailand.

There are phone cards, but they're not that much cheaper (at least not the ones I've come across).

If you use these from a mobile they cost the same as from a landline. (so it is actually cheaper to phone a mobile in the UK from a mobile in Thailand, than from a different mobile network in the UK).

I have been using Dee Dial to phone overseas and been very happy. They are one of the Thai Visa Sponsors too. 1.5 baht per minute to a landline. Use the call back number they offer and you don't even have to use any of your Thai mobile phone credit.

You can buy pre-paid cards, after registering at Family Mart, or top up at 7.

USA is only 1.5 to a mobile also.

Clear line with no delay/echo.
