Hard to say if it is the right school for your daughter within saying her nationality, previous academic achievement with what type of curriculum, ability to integrate with her peers, etc.

GIS is an ok school, but probably not near the top. First thing to decide is does the curriculum have to be American or British. After that the choice of schools is probably an economic one based on what you can afford (or company allowance) to pay.

For British curriculum, Regents is known as the best (at least the most expensive). For American curriculum, most of our people working on the Eastern Seaboard send their kids to the International School Eastern Seaboard. Most are not really thrilled, and there is a constant complaint the a really good American curriculum school, comparable to Regents, is not available down there. The best American school in Thailand is International School of Bangkok (ISB).

Rayong is the name of a town as well as the province. GIS is actually located in Ban Chang, which is about 10km or so from Rayong the town. You need to a bit more specific about where you are moving and intend to live. I assume you are moving due to working in or near the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate? Most expats working in that area tend to live in the Pattaya area (not in Pattaya, but in the many upscale developments that surround it)

Do you need to decide this before you move? I don't think so, as the school year for international schools will finish in a couple of months so you will have all summer to find the right school.

If you are interested in Rayong city, you may want to look at Rayongwittayakom. It's the top government school on the eastern seaboard and is located in Rayong. If you want your daughter to get an intensive English program, you can have her apply for the MEP program. It costs 40,000 baht/year, and all of the courses are taught in English. Otherwise, I would look to St. Joseph's or Assumption.

A mate of mine has his Thai stepson at GIS and he reckons it's great.

St. Andrew's is an English Curriculum school in Ban Chang also that many parents are happy with but it's more expensive than GIS.

My daughter is in St.Andrews Rayong (Kindergarten) and both my husband and I, not to mention our daughter - absolutely love it. Follows British curriculum and extra curricular programs are excellent. Has a strong PTG (Parent Teacher Group) which is very active within the school.

Overall the school facilities, teachers, support staff and excellent and I definitely recommend the school to ANYONE who wants to send their child to an international school.

From what I've been told (by a teacher there), GIS doesn't not encourage or support any parental involvement/input... not to mention that there are MANY things that could & need to done to improve the school. I'm in no way saying it's a bad school, just that there are OTHER options in Rayong if you are looking for an international school :o

Good Luck in your search for a school.

I liveup the road from the garden school, cannot comment on it, but would reccommend living in the banchang area, it is quite nice, and a little bit closer to Pattaya, where you will end up going once in a while to get expat type supplies food etc. close to a reasonable beach, lots of amenities. it would mean about a 25 minute drive to rayong or 20 to Map ta Put
