Mr Happy Toilet

Why has the lady on the right attached a shrunken head to her kneecap? Must we all take two young ladies with us when we want to take a dump or is that practice reserved for those with influence?

I thought I was the only one that noticed the gigantic swollen knee. It'd like a transplanted bowel tumor. Maybe they borrowed our year 3 pathology lab discards.

What a nutter.... :o

Just years ago he was dubbed "Bad Boy", but today Wan Yoobamrung wants to call it quits with notoriety

I'm proud to be "Mr Happy Toilet" : Wan

At 33, the son of Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung is pleased with his new role at the Public Health Ministry, not only as Secretary to the Deputy Minister: he is now "Mr Happy Toilet," in charge of a campaign to make all toilets clean.

Wan believes this mission could create a public perception of him as a good guy.

Q : Why do you want to be a politician?

Wan: It's my dream. I know I've made mistakes. Now I want to prove that I can work for society. I want to run for Parliament in a general election. That might make people accept me. When I was young, people from all around used to come and ask my father for help. They were all welcome to talk with the family. I remember that vividly. My father has three sons. I look the most like him. I used to go with him to the provinces on election campaigns. He made the Yoobamrung name famous throughout the country. I'm afraid political work will fade away in the family if there is nobody to follow in his footsteps. That's why I have to get into politics.

Q: Don't you think people will laugh at you? "Mr. Happy Toilet" may sound funny to them.

Wan: Of course they will, but I'm proud of the role. I shan't care if someone says: "Hey! Here's Mr. Happy Toilet!" I've had worse said about me.

Q: How do you feel about being in the public eye?

Wan: It used to feel terrible. I used to have a good cry with a friend, or with my Japanese Koi fish, particularly when the Criminal Court banned me from entertainment spots like discotheques for two years. No one else has ever been sentenced to that. I'm just an ordinary man who loves his friends and wants to protect them. I just want to prove that I can be a good guy, and I want to tell people that there's no way my family is corrupt.

Q: Has your father taught you anything about politics?

Wan: No, never. He says I have to learn about it and get on with it by myself.

Q: What is your next plan in your work for the Public Health Ministry?

Wan: I'm a Liverpool fan. I want to promote football as a healthy activity for people across the country, because football's my favourite thing.

'Give Duang a chance'

Chalerm's second son rejoins the Army despite his dishonourable discharge in 2002 - all with the PM's blessings

Daily Xpress

Prime Minister Samak Sun-daravej says he has approved Duang Yoobamrung's application to rejoin the military, adding that he is not worried about any political fallout. (He doesn't give a $hit.

Duang, the son of outspoken Interior Minister Chalerm, was dishonourably discharged in 2002 on charges of desertion. In 2001, Duang had fled to Malaysia after being accused of shooting an on-duty decorated police officer in a nightclub brawl.

He surrendered the following year and was acquitted from the charges later.

Samak, who kept quiet all yesterday morning, finally broke his silence in the afternoon after the Cabinet meeting, acknowledging that he has okayed Duang's application and that the media should not make a big deal out of it because "he is just one individual".

However, speculation is rife about Chalerm having lobbied certain channels to get his son back in the military.

Duang served as a sub-lieutenant in the Armed Forces Security Centre, the main intelligence unit for the military, before being discharged in 2001.

In an interview with Daily Xpress, Duang said he was not being "reinstated", but that he had applied to become a commissioned officer in line with "family tradition". "It's a big misunderstanding. I was not reinstated. I applied for it a few years ago with my qualifications. I didn't find out about it until the prime minister made a statement today."

Echoing Samak's reasoning, Duang's older brother Wan (Mr.Happy Toilet himself) said his sibling has every right to return to the military because he was not found guilty of any crime. :o:D :D :D

"The court acquitted him [of alleged murder]. If Duang was not a son of Chalerm Yoobamrung, his return to the Army would not be a big issue at all," Wan said.

He added that Duang would have been a captain by now if it weren't for the legal dispute. "I beg you all to give him a chance. My family wants to make a contribution to this society."

Supatra Rodwimut, wife of murdered Sergeant Suwichai Rodwimut, said she was shocked. "I have no words to describe how I feel. I'm just an ordinary woman. I have no power to fight. I hope one day the sin he committed will catch up with him."

Supreme Commander General Boonsrang Niampradit declined to comment, saying he has yet to be informed.

IN A NUTSHELL

>> Oct 29, 2001: Sergeant Suwichai Rodwimut is shot dead inside the Twenty Pub, allegedly during a brawl with Duang Yoobamrung and his friends. Police call Duang for questioning but he disappears. Police begin a nationwide search but fail to find him.

>> May 2, 2002: After six months on the run, Duang walks into the Thai Embassy in Malaysia and says: "Help me get home". He shows up with his eldest brother, Artharn, and his uncle, Thalerng.

>> March 26, 2004: Duang is acquitted by the Criminal Court on grounds that prosecutors presented insufficient evidence and conflicting witness testimonies.

>> May 25, 2004: Suwichai's wife Supatra appeals against the verdict.

>> July 5-6 , 2004: Prosecutors and police agree not to appeal against the verdict.

The only surprise in this decision is that its taken so long. One of the frustrating things about living in Thailand is watching these scum thrive and prosper. Samak is saying "he was proved to be innocent" I guess thats why he ran and hid in Malaysia no doubt receiving money from his family while they organised a whitewash. The average Thai person will shrug their shoulders and say "what can we do.we don't have power" they're right of course but there seem to be very few attempts to mobilise the intelligent middle class to unite in a democratic way and end these charades. How this country survives continues to be a modern miracle.

The gov't and this family..... in fact all resemble a cess pool. The big chunks all float to the top.

The only difference here is that the checks and balances that curb the worst of human nature are not effective in this country.

You look at the "elite" of most countries and then the historical means by which they achieved that status.

Would I mistaken in believing that this decision is predicated on embarrassing the military and sowing the seeds of discord between the military and police?

Sends a negative message to the police and might cause them to resist the next military coup.

All in all this is a major strategic error. A very inappropriate decision and something that has reduced my respect for the man that allowed it. Stupid. stupid, stupid.

Someone, please flush the toilet on this family and fast. The stench is unbearable.

What do you mean to say?

Chalerm and Samak achieved their "elite" status entirely via democracy, over junta's dead body, so to speak. Among traditional elites Chalerm is persona non-grata, Samak is tolerated only because of his family history.

Just that most elites in any society have attained that status by being either brutal; cunning; clever; cynical; or lucky. Or a combination of the above. How did Chalerm become the top cop before his political career, btw? It wasn't from helping little old ladies across the street.

Look at the history of the Royal families of Europe, or the powerful US political clans; Kennedys; Bush families etc. Really lovely people all. :o

My point is that Chalerm is anything but an example of Thai elite.

Scum like him has risen on the back of Thai democracy, they'd have no chance advancing via traditional methods.

Hense our current problems - new elites enforce new values. What was unacceptable and even unthinkable under old elites is new elites "modus operandi". Corruption, nepotism, disregard for the rule of law - that's how they came to power in the first place, they don't know anything else, they think it's perfecty normal and should be legalised.

They have been allowed to cheat (and buy votes) on their way to power for far too long and with full support of the populace. They are the "true" face of Thai people unlike traditional elites with their aristocratic roots.

Sadly, I believe in toilet language this particular family, along with a couple of others involved in all of this would be termed as "floaters".

It's a job for the mighty "Toilet Duck". :o

Excellent. :D

ASTV is having fun these days running a full length video of a drunk Chalerm coming to rescue his son at a police station. Quite funny to watch him in his poo yai stance abusing journalists asking him questions, him turning his head and the eyes coming around a fraction of a secon later. :o The adult scumbag of a son cowardly stands behind his scumbag of a dad the whole time.

The sad thing is that this family seems to be sh*tting on the entire country and everyone in it!

Thailand seems to be going the way that most of Africa has. Could the Land of Smiles become the next Zimbabwe?
