Hi :o

We're planning to get away from Samui for a couple of days, maybe 3, while my parents are coming to visit my GF and I, in Thailand...

We don't have much time, but I'd like them to see another side of Thailand than Samui's, where local people aren't always that nice to foreigners.

We thought we'd head to Krabi, but if you have other suggestions they are welcome. And if we go to Krabi : Is there nice things to see between krabi and Surat Thani ? We have our own car by the way... and a GPS also! ;-)

Thank you for your advices :D

No, I havent... I just moved to Samui, from Bangkok, I really dn't know the south, yet :o

Where is it exactly ? You think I should go with my parents ? The "ideal" place I'd like to go to with them would be... Scenic, with nice local people, not too many tourists, and maybe some cultural things to see (temples, villages...).. I know it's specific, ;-) lol

Khao Sok National Park wouldn't have much cultural stuff going on, but it is very scenic and not that touristy. Its about halfway between Surat and Krabi if you don't go on the road to Krabi that is just outside Don Sak but go on the road that is just outside the main town of Surat Thani (called Ban Don) .

check out khaosok.com or the National parks page for more info and directions.

Anyone arriving by train very early in the morning at Suratthani station can just go to OUM's restaurant.Look-up for Mr. Hai,speaks good english and ready to provide honest straightforward travel information to guest that sat for a cup of coffee.

OUM's restaurant can be easily spotted from the train exit, the shopfront had a yellow sunshade with a big OUM painted on it.

Just get in your car and drive, stop whenever you see something that you like.

Everybody has a different idea about what is 'nice' so taking advice from others sometimes does not work out how you had hoped. There are plenty of places that fit your criteria and in my experience they are the places that you would only find by turning off the main roads and following the more minor routes. Khoa Sok is nice as is Ratchaprapa Dam but both are limited in what they offer as well as being slightly off the route between Surat and Krabi. Other suggestions are Khanom, Kiriwong, Lae Morakot etc etc.

Just jump in the car and go exploring.
