Would it possibly be an issue if my first and middle name on my Degree Cert were the wrong way around (compared to my passport). Its about 10 years old and i never bothered to get this corrected especially since i have never actually had to shown my certificate to an employer here in the UK!!

just to clarify, i have 4 names in total on passport and goes something like (not real names),

Passport: Mike Ben Adam Anderson.

Certificate: Adam Ben Mark Anderson.

My real names are actually quite unique but may not make a difference to the Thai authorities?

I have original and transcripts, so i guess just want to know if this would definately be an issue or not? I intend to arrive in Thailand in a couple of weeks so not enough time to get this changed as i have ben told by the Uni that this could take 1/2/3 months to get a new certificate issued.

Depending on where you work and the Ministry of Education Office, your degree should be verified by your employer. At least we have to do that. It may be an issue, but if your transcript shows your birthdate and any other verifiable information you should be able to overcome this problem.

The concern here is that officials can be very, very pedantic--especially about rather small problems. At the same time they can miss the big ones completely or decide to overlook things.

We have a teacher with a similar problem and they caught it, but since we had the verification and the police certification (and all other information matched), they decided it was OK. Told them some Westerners do that.

Just noticed an error in my post with the names so corrected below.

Passport: Mark Ben Adam Anderson.

Certificate: Adam Ben Mark Anderson

Hi Scott, just checked my transcripts and it has my addess same as my UK driving licence but no date of birth. I am starting to think if this would be an issue to cancel my travel plans altogether and get this sorted.

As with many questions of this type in Thailand, it's impossible to answer in advance.

If you apply for all the relevant paperwork here, it's entirely possible that there will be no problem.

Or, it could prevent you from getting approved. It all depends on who sees the paperwork, how they feel, what they had for breakfast that day, etc.

Almost certainly if you ask someone to give you the official answer, it will be that your paperwork is not acceptable in its present form.

So if you want 100% assurance.... well, this isn't the right country. If you want to avoid a lot of anxiety, get the certificate fixed before you come.

I think the fear would be that the certificate belonged to a brother. I do hear that occasionally families do have members with the same names but in a different order. Maybe getting it fixed might be the best thing. Hopefully this shouldn't be too hard for you.

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to get this fixed but it will mean handing back my old certificate and a new one sent to me a couple of months from now. However, i am locked into travel plans to leave the UK in around a week for Thailand. So will be leaving the UK without the actual certificate and wondered if in the mean time an official letter from my Uni would be sufficient evidence when applying for jobs?

Cheers.

I think it will depend on the school you apply to. You will likely need it to begin the process of applying for teacher's license and work permit, but I heard that some schools don't begin this process till after your 3 month probationary period.

Don't forget to also bring your police clearance.
