PP I'd rather be in Klong Toey market than sharing a Doner Kebab here with the locals. :D

I'll be speaking Arabic and Vietnamese if I stay too long.

All the shop signs are in either Chinese or Vietnamese Grrrr! :o

Funny, I noticed an increasing number of shop signs in English in LOS as well. Maybe both of these phenomena (and your being able to live in LOS) have something to do with globalization.

First very brief visit (beer or 3 ) was when i was on a old Bank Line ship doing the far east run from the UK in 1970....think Klong Toey.

Bit of an old tramp steamer but we got to all the interesting places like Hong Kong,Manila,Cebu,Keelung,Singapore,South Pacific Islands,Australia etc and the not so fun like Chittagong and Haipong.

Brits were neutral in the "Nam"conflict and a regular run to Hanoi was the norm until some president or other suggested dropping Nukes on the joint so we upped anchor and scarpered.

Incid (fyi)during the Cuba Crisis some of the ships in the Russian convoy were under charter from Blighty....(CIA kept it quiet)as again we were neutral but that was long before my time.

Anyway next visit to Bangers was in 1984 (after getting chucked out of Iraq)discovered the Honey Hotel/Soi Coyboy/Temples and Kwa teao...and have been coming back ever since roughly twice a year......quite like it.

Mentioned on a previous post today; 3 years.

Still loving it - met some seriously great Thai people, but prehaps looking for a change of scenery.

:o

Me think you are from:-

"City of Angels, Great City of Immortals, Magnificent City of the Nine Gems, Seat of the King, City of Royal Palaces, Home of the Gods Incarnate, Erected by Visvakarman at Indra's Behest." :D

Yes - No ?

:D

I arrived as a backpacker on the infamous 9/11, or 11/9 rather.

Got bored of that and settled down straight away. Loved it here.

Unfortunately just left due to extraneous circumstances. Now in Central America... Would do just about anything to get back home. (kanchanaburi) .

So it was three years, but it will be forever if home really is where the heart is.

Weclome Home K.O. -_-

I am phoneless right now and will be at uni all day. I wouldn't be too worried about PM messages on here. Mine are cleansed every second day. Or phone that guy in Brissie.

Nearly 31 years. Errr... does it count? :D

So where where you living in all those years previously? :o

I started visiting Los as a <deleted> wishing to learn/improve on his Muay Thai 17 years ago as a 21 year old , unfortunately after a 6 month stay I fell by the wayside after "discovering" Pattaya. Travelled throughout SE Asia yet kept being drawn to that terrible place. Now happily married with 2 sprogs , aborted attempt at emigrating last year , house sale fell through put paid to that , now looking at 3 to 5 years before an improved attempt.

Yes

And I have been blessed the past 6 years staying here. :D

Ugh. 31 years and 13 days today. All in Thailand. With a few quick trips out of Thailand, of course.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been here full time for 2 years, 22 days, 12 hours and thoroughly enjoying it.
