April 21, 200818 yr Hi, I will be leaving my school at the end of the month. I believe my work permit will then be cancelled and that i should be leaving the country within 7 days after that. My current 3 months notification is valid until end of june. If i were to stay after my WP had been cancelled and made a border run lets say a month from now, how likely is it that the immigration officers at the border actually know that i overstayed? What could be the worst case scenario: 200 bahts/day (or is it more now?). Thanks
April 21, 200818 yr Normally when your work permit is cancelled your employer will also inform Immigration, who will then stamp you passport with 7 days to leave. That is how they know.
April 21, 200818 yr If you are here on a 90 day visa entry there is no requirement to leave. Overstay is 500 baht per day and you must leave the day work ends if on an extension of stay unless you obtain a 7 day extension of stay. There does not seem to be any grace period.
April 21, 200818 yr There does not seem to be any grace period. Curious about this. I was on the Labour Department website for another matter and they do indicate 7 days to leave after WP canceled. Odds are it is just out of date?
April 21, 200818 yr Recent posts have reported being charged overstay from date of work ending recently but have never noticed any 'official' type report on policy change. Believe it now means you can stay 7 more days if you pay for an extension of stay.

That is how they know. well..i won't have that stamp. Forgot to mention, i'm on a non-imm B visa. So if i understand correctly, i'm supposed to leave the country on the same day that my school notifies the immigration or labour department. Do the immigration officers have all this on a database at the border (that my WP has been cancelled and that the date on my 90 day reporting is not 'valid' anymore)? Seems unlikely for Thailand. What do u guys think? Edited April 21, 200818 yr by iyah
April 21, 200818 yr If you are really here on a visa entry (90 days) loss of employment does not effect your permitted to stay until date. If you are here on a employment extension of stay from Immigration your permitted to stay ends on loss of employment. Will they know? It seems more likely these days than even a few months ago from recent reports.

Thanks Lopburi. i'm here on a 1 year non-imm B visa and have to report every 90 days to immigration office by sending them a form, they then send me back a slip with a due date to report (end of june would be the next time i have to report). So you're saying that they might have some kind of centralised database system going on at the border that would keep track of this kind of stuff? 500 baht/day..seems like it would be safer to do a border run or a ventianne run for TV until my next job then..is that right? April 21, 200818 yr Best to be legal as you will need to be for the new job in any case. You are on a one year extension of stay and doing 90 day address reports because you do not leave the country.

Yes, i would need a visa before i can apply for a new work permit, just wanted to postpone the hassle a bit since i intend to take a few weeks off. Thanks for your help
