Hi Everyone,

I am currently working and will be leaving my current job for a new job.

The new company I will be working at says I need to get a tourist visa

so I can get a new Non-B.

I have not quit my current job - yet - still getting paid.

Can I just leave the country, say via Myanmar or Laos, automatically

cancelling my single-entry NON-B visa, then return to Thailand and get a

tourist visa?

Or, is there a cheaper, easier way to do this? Money is tight right now.

Are you here on a 90 day visa entry or a one year extension of stay from Immigration?

It appears to be a 90 day entry and that does not end with loss of employment and no new visa would be required until you need to exit/return at the end of 90 days. If you have the company paperwork and work permit receipt you could then obtain a new non immigrant B visa.

It is a 1-year extension, expiring in October 2008.

That explains why you need another visa. At the end of employment that extensions of stay will end so you must immediately exit Thailand (or obtain a 7 day extension if you need the time). Yes, an exit/return will provide you a 30 day visa exempt entry (not a tourist visa - for that you would have to visit a Consulate). When new employment paperwork is available (with work permit receipt) you would exit to visit a Consulat to obtain a single entry non immigrant B visa. There may be a possibility, deepening on employment, to covert to a B visa and extend in country but if you only have a 30 day entry it must be done with 21 days remaining so will require quick action from your new employer. They should inform you of exactly what is required and time line.

Can I go to the Ministry of Labour and have them cancel my work permit?

Then go to Immigration and have them cancel my visa, giving me 7 days to exit the country?

I believe employer usually takes care of the work permit cancellation but have no experience. From some reports recently you must obtain a 7 day extension from immigration now rather than it being provided but there is no problem getting it. If someone has recent experience please advise.

Sorry if this was covered in another thread. I currently have a Non Imm visa allowing multiple entry until the end of June. This is a result of my current job. I will no longer work with this organization and plan on moving from Thailand but need a 12 day extension.

If would rather not leave the country and get an extension. Is this possible and how best to get it? Would I also be able to do a short trip out of the country and return as a tourist with 90 days? I gather I would need come back after the multiple entry work visa has expired. The first option is preferred.

Thank you,

You really should have posted this as a new item as thread is two years old.

You can not obtain a 12 day extension of stay - you can cross any border and return, before the end of June expiration date of your multi entry visa to obtain a new 90 day stay. You do not have to have a work permit/employment to use such a visa for entry.

I will just leave and come back to get the extension. The part still not clear is if I leave and come back while the multi entry visa is still valid will this change anything? I believe I need to leave and return after the muti visa expires to get the tourist visa status.

Thanks

Your current visa allows you 90 day permission to stay on each entry whilst your visa is valid. As said, do a border run just before your visa expires and obtain a new 90 day permission to stay stamp on re-entry (it is not an extension). It is as simple as that.
