Hi,

I got 2 entry visa in laos 3 months ago, i did the extension in the office immigration in Phuket. Now i have to do a new visa run. What is the more convenient and the cheapest solution. Phuket-Ranong or Phuket Hatyai.

I don't need a visa for malaysia whereas i need it to go Myammar right?

Thanks for your advice :o

No visa needed for Myanmar. 24 hour visa on arrival, but bring a crisp New $10.00 bill. Saves the hassle of finding one there.

ITHO, Having done both trips numerous times. Hatyai is a much longer and harder drive, but there is no boat ride. You just hire a Motorbike Taxi to run you through both borders. But Ranong is an easier, shorter drive, but you have to book a Longtail boat and its a 25-45 minute trip both ways. Cost: 400thb (depending on the speed of the boat and the wave action).

If I were having to do it I would go to Ranong. It is the quicker of the two, and thus, the cheaper.

This is Todd's Opinion, nothing more.

Hallo,

in Ranong you do not necessarily need to use the open longtail boat but can go by covered ferry to Andaman Club. Much more comfortable in these rainy days.

Round trip Phuket - Ranong - Phuket may take about 12 hours.

When they had flights from Phuket to Haad Yai, the Songkhla run was always my preferred option. But since Nok air canceled the flights its a no-brainer: Ranong.

12 hours sounds about right for an organised visa run by bus - 5 hours there and back, and 2 in Ranong for the boat ride and immigration process.

If it's take 12h it's almost same than go to Hatyai, 5 hours to go and 5 hours to go back with public bus and 2 hours to go and come back from the border. Furthermore for the cost... :o

The public bus from Phuket to Hadyai takes 7 hours....on a good day with the driver driving like a lunatic!

Hallo,

here we are at answers for an unspecific question regarding the travelling time.

Of course if you race like a lunatic you may cover just the distance between Phuket and Ranong in a short while.

My estimation of 12 hours covers a "normal" car ride, the time at the immigration, the ferry to Andaman Club, a lunch at the coffee shop at Andaman Club Hotel, the ferry back, the immigration procedure and the drive back to Phuket.

If I read the original question correctly he asked for "...the more convenient and cheapest solution". I emphasized on the word "convenient". I can not see that he asked for the fastest solution.

But thanks LivinLOS anyway for comparing me with Jesus!

I did the Big C (Phuket Town) to Ranong and back border run a month ago. 1700 baht or so, 12 hours (it would have been less except for the driving rainstorms), went well and the people running the show seemed to be very nice. The only downside is that the van is pretty crowded and a white chick brushed against me and broke a 7 year streak of never touching a white chick's skin ;-(

A motor bike (10 or 20 baht) to the Immigration Office for a stamp out, then walk about 100 meters to the Big Boat - don't go any other way - to Kawthaung in Myanmar. You will need a $10 USD note. Not two fives, not ten ones - it must be a ten. Usually one of the crew in the boat will take your passport to Myanmar Immigration. Then back to Ranong and Thai Immigation. Near the bus depot is a hotel run by a kiwi if you want to stay overnight. It's something Orchid.

Good luck.
