It's rubbish if you ask me.

Several thousand young-dumb-and-full-of-cum pot head backpackers, ignorantly raving away to skull numbing noise, falling asleep on the beach, urinating in the sea, littering the whole area and drawing on each others faces with orange and green lumo pens.

Each to their own. If you want to go and hangout with f##### up farang listening to dance music for 12+ hours. Go nuts. not for me. Why would you come to Thailand tp hang out on a beach full cigarette butts, s### music and hang out with people who come here, do Samui and The full moon and then go home and tell veryone that they have travelled in Thailand? Also they will get there hair braided. Go figure. Anyway i have hear mixed reports. Some enjoy it some hate it. Its up to you. But i'm with shopgirl on this one. Find a nice secluded beach and chill out. Without the fear of getting robbed or even worse.

Sounds pretty scary. Would it be ok if I go by myself? or better go with friends?

Depends on your friends I'd say. They may be a little more confident in making decisions than you obviously are so if you con them into going to the party and they have a bad time they might just kick the bejeezers out of you.

I know I would!

Seriously. Do you usually get in trouble when you go out?

How many thousand people have gone to a FMP and lived to tell the tale (well at least say they were there..memory's a bit dazed etc etc )?

Crikey bring yer Mum that should see you right!

honeyen - I'd say to give it a go. I've been once and really enjoyed it. I went a week before and stayed in Had Rin before it got really busy (you may struggle to find accomodation otherwise). The beach is beautiful and the night boat trip over from Surithani is an experience in itself :o

As for being robbed etc??? Don't give in to fear, there is nothing to be afraid of! It's just a party for one night with loud music and a lot of people having a really good time. It's safe to go on your own and you will find it easy to make friends, it's that kind of atmosphere.

It's an experience that you should remember forever and you have nothing to lose by trying. The worst thing that could happen is that you might really enjoy it and go back the next time!

I'm with Jockstar on the hairbraiding though.

Thousands have survived? Try thousands have survived every month.

The FMP is on Hadrin Beach, Koh Phangan. It is on every full moon unless that day happens to be a major buddhist holiday. Then it is the day after.

I don't go. But then, I have lived here for 15 years, why would I?

It is a rave on the beach with thousands of drunken and drugged farang and Thais (yes, it is popular with young Thais as well) dancing away. There is a choice of music depending on which bar you go to, the big ones all have massive speakers on the beach so if you don't like the music at one you can always go to another. December is the busiest one and I would not recommend it to you. November is the rainy season but it is guaranteed to be lower key (ie not 15- 20,000 people but more like 4-5,000).

Yes, you do need to be careful, like anywhere in the world where there is a large crowd there are bound to be predators, both Thai and farang. Do not drink from a glass (drink from a bottle), do not take anything (ie pills, drinks) from strangers and do not bring anything valuable to the party with you. Alot of people prefer to stay out of Hadrin for the party that way they can go back to a quiet place to get some sleep. Ban Kai and Ban Tai are the closest quiet beaches to Hadrin. Yes, it is more fun with a group of friends but if you come about 3-4 days or so before the party you will be bound to make friends at the resort where you are staying.

I would say 9 out of 10 people I have met who have gone to the party had a good time. Even if they don't get plastered the people watching is pretty fun. And you can say you've been. Something to tell your grandkids :o

The parties used to be good but now they're <deleted>. Full of students who've never been abroad before acting like complete tits

So f###### true. Come here for 2 or 4 weeks and think they know it all. No f###### idea!

Been to it 2 times in the last 5 years or so. Not my style, but I went with friends who wanted to go. I suggest staying on KPG rather than taking the boat from Samui. That boat ride back the morning after REALLY SUCKS after a night of Tequelia. My head hurts just thinking about it.

But the party is kind of fun for a while. You will see some bizzare sights. Yes, it is children making ididiots of themselves, but that's entertaining.

What I don't understand is why so many posters on this board are so concerned with the children's EGOS as to develope such a hatered of them. :o:D

Sorry, it's just all the extremely negative posts about "know it all kids" and such just leads me to believe many have very negative feelings about these kids. Obviously people wouldn't post such stuff if it wern't so. Maybe it is not "hatred", but rather "contempt". And this "contempt" seems to be directed toward the kid's "know it all ego".

I just want to know why? :D

Simple!

Cuz many (most) of the forum posters are over the age when they go to a fmp.

Thats what makes it so simple to judge...

If any UNDER the age of 20 post here...and have been to los, i guess you wouldn't have the same negative feeling.

i have been there once with a group of 15 friends (male and female) and had a great time and would recommend it for the experience of having been to see it... about 12,000 people when i was there, didnt have any problems and didnt see any problems, not to say not to take care...

probably wouldnt do it again because i am getting older, but i thoroughly enjoyed the experience of people watching... yes the younger generation letting down their hair in an atmosphere that they can enjoy... none of them caused any problems for us... i even saw quite a few groups of older people getting into the fun... and that is what it was... fun!!!

ah, then I think I should really do it before I'm too old to do so :o thanks mate.

older in the sense that i have less time for partying due to business responsibilities... but well worth the experience... i think good if you could take some mates with you... spend some time going out in chaweng beach on koh samui a couple of days before the party and you will be sure to meet plenty of other people who will be going over to the party aswell and will gladly assist in giving you the details of how to get there... enjoy, that is what life is all about :D

For me it's still sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. :D

Although the drugs now are more likely to be paracetamol and viagra. :o

That just about sums it up. It's a shame that Ko Phagnan, IMHO the best place in Thailand, well, the world actually, has full moon party cancer.

Haad Rin is the ###### of Ko Phangan.

I have never been. But one man told me there were 2 things in his life that he would never forget. One was the full moon party and the other was the 36 hours he spent on the back of a camel in the desert of Lybia. He said he couldn't decide which was worse.
