Injections Of Local Anesthetic (numbing) Medication Into Muscle

Trigger point injections of local anesthetic (numbing) medication, saline, and/or cortisone , and/or Botulinum Toxin A into the trigger point(s) into shoulder muscles or neck to stop a friend's 30 year of suffering from tension headaches. Anyone know where this can be done in Bangkok?

It's a new method apparently. He's often in a lot of pain and with a bit of googling for him I found some info that might help so I promised I'd ask in here....

Thanks

Actually you are describing several entirely different things:

- botulinum toxin (Botox) injection is used to tempoarrily paralyze small muscles and can be heldpful in preventing headaches due to tensing of the muscles.

- in jection of cortisone which reduces inflammation, usually done in joints for problems associated with inflammation.

- injection of local anesthetoc, which is done into nerves to block pain, obviously only possible in the nerve responsible is not used in essential functions (since the block will not only deaden but paralyze that partici;laur nerve).

There is also a 4th thing, which is nerve ablation, which is the complete destruction of a nerve and unlike the above permamnent. Thios would usually only be done after a nerve block rpoved sucessful in giving relief without impairing function.

There are doctors in Thailand able to do all of these things.

He should see a neurologist specializing in headache at either Bangkok Hospital, Samitivej, BNH or Bumrungrad.

there is as well trigger point therapy - invented and popular in america, but there might be somebody doing it in thailand. Some therapists associations might have their thai addresses.

a regular, even daily, massage and self massage should help - but around the head itself it should be done much gentler than what thai do. Hot showers on the affected muscles and stretching them (like in thai massage - but much slower) should help as well.
