Relevant facts: 22 year old US passport holder. I will be landing in Bangkok June 26th and will be staying until December 18th. So about 6 months. My plan is to get a 30 day entry stamp when I arrive -- Then go to neighboring country for either another entry stamp OR I may just get a tourist visa -- rinse and repeat until I leave.

My main concern is this -- will they give me the 30 day stamp without proof that I am leaving in 30 days? Should I buy a ticket to PP or somewhere for 30 days after I arrive and have it in hand when I arrive in Bangkok?

Sorry if the post is a tad confusing -- I tried to my best to explain everything.

Also, I realize that I get just get 3 entry visas in my own country -- but I would like to travel around a bit -- therefor these visa runs are a benefit to me.

Thanks everyone,

Tony

Without either a visa or an outbound airticket within 30 days of arrival, airlines are most unlikely to carry you into Thailand.

It is most unlikely that Thai immigration would ask an arriving US visitor without visa for proof of onward travel within 30 days. It is almost certain, however, that the airline would refuse to let you check in for your flight without such proof unless you have a visa. Therefore my suggestion:

-- If you already have firm plans for your first side-trip out of Thailand and if this trip is by air, within 30 days from your arrival, book your ticket online already before your departure from USA and you will have no problem if you start your trip without a visa.

-- Otherwise, start with a tourist visa from a Thai consulate in the USA. For your convenience you can apply by mail.

Enjoy your stay in Thailand and your travels to other countries in the region!

Get a 1 year round trip ticket from the state (EVA air has a deal from East Coast or West Coast - get the deluxe seat). Then get the tourist visa with 3 entries. When you do your visa runs you can use your 1 year return ticket as proof. Good luck.

I came from London with a stamp on arrival, I believe air line company they know if your passport require a visa or not. If your country as a 30 day stamp on arrival agrement with thailand, airline they know.

The negative fact is you have to cross the board to take another stamp, but you can only do this 2 time, for the next 3 month stay you must go to a thai embassy in Laos or any near country.

Personally they never ask me for a plane tiket and i been here 15 month and been to thai embassy in Laos 4 time to get a visa. :o

If he does not have an onward ticket WITHIN 30 DAYS or a Visa they probably will not let him on the plane from USA.

As Lopburi said.

again... get a one year round trip with open return date. If they want a confirmed return date, then pick a date... you can always call the airline and change your return date to a future date when you're in Thailand. The airline counter in the US WILL ask for an onward ticket for sure (within 30 days - I'm not sure).

I would apply for a double entry tourist visa the next time you are in Vientiane. No reason why you should not be able to get one.
