What The Heck Is The Superstructure On Sukhumvit?

It's bypassing nothing........the new Pattaya Bypass is the road along both sides of the railway from North to South v.v.. Now, this 'by-pass' could have a function, coming from nr 36, just before the railway track (s), turn left and follow the bypass until let's say Neun Pleb Waan.

In the future, the entrance from nr 36 will still be there of course, but unfortunately, there will be almost zero traffic using the 36, unless it has to go to Laem Chabang (from Rayong). Voices are stating, that this so called by-pass should take care of most traffic problems on Sukhumvit.

The roads paralleling the RR tracks are a perfect example of a good idea transformed into a disaster! There are far too many intersections (even when they eventually turn on the dam traffic lights!) for these roads to do anything but ADD congestion to the roads that intersect them.

What should have been done was to build overpasses over most of the intersecting roads, with intersections, controlled by traffic lights, at only a few, and alternating between the east and west side roads. Here's how it could have been very effective:

On the road west of the tracks, intersections, with lights, at Chaipornvitee Road; Nernplubwarn Road; Soi Khaotalo; and Chaiyapruk Road 2. ALL OTHER INTERSECTIONS SHOULD HAVE HAD OVERPASSES.

On the road east of the tracks, intersections, with lights, at Siam CC Road; Soi Khao Noi; Soi Nongkraborg; and Huai Yai Road. AGAIN, ALL OTHER INTERSECTIONS SHOULD HAVE HAD OVERPASSES.

THAT would have truly minimized the impact on every one of those roads, as well as the congestion at Sukhumvit. In addition, they should also have opened the "T" intersection at Siam CC Road, with lights, of course. The move across Suk from Siam CC Road to the U-Turn lane is one of the most dangerous "demolition derby" driving moves in all of Pattaya!

I'm sorry if I sound too strong on this subject, but I sincerely believe that the people doing the road and traffic planning for this area are absolute idiots! They constantly build, and then close intersections (Nernplubwarn, Siam CC Road); add and shut down lights (the aforementioned two, Chaipornvitee, Thepprasit and Thappraya); and fail miserably to identify dangerous "crossovers" such as that move from Siam CC to the U-Turn. And, of course, there is a woefully inadequate amount of police presence at the "problem" intersections. (Although, as inept as they are at proper control techniques, we may be better off without the BIB!) All of these things both add to congestion, and present serious safety hazards. What the h*ll is wrong with these people?

I have never been a "City Planner"; and never took courses in it. But I swear, without reservation, that I could make at least a 50% improvement in the flow and safety of Pattaya traffic, given just 6 months of full authority. These people are idiots!

Did I mention that these people are idiots?!

Patience, my good friend. Patience. As soon as they have offically opened the bypass and it becomes popular and heavily used, *THEN* construction work will commence to build overpasses.

There is MUCH more revenue in the form of kickbacks, tea money and other graft schemes in multiple construction contracts, vs just a single go.

Everybody keeps reffering to the road by the rail tracks as a "bypass", it was never intended to be a bypass, city hall term it as a "releif road"??? Initially there was also mention of this road being a "toll" road with exemption for locals/residents??, not sure how they would administer that one!

From memory too, the new road number 7 is supposed to have a link to Chaiyapruek 2, that is the reason it was made a lot wider a couple of years ago, there once was a "plan" on display at city hall!, the idea being that all Jomtien beach traffic would come in that way off #7 so as avoiding Sukhumvit - Pattaya.

Correct me if I am mistaken but I think if you are driving in on Highway 36 just before you reach the left turn onto the new"bypass" there is a big green road sign that indicates the entrance to the "Bypass",,,,,,,,,maybe my eyes are older than I am. Anyone else see that sign?
