Hi!

Sorry to seem dumb - I'm sure the answer's already here somewhere, but I am confused........

I am retired, 60 years old, living in Phuket; I have had more than 800,000 Baht in my Bank Account for more than 3 months.

On the 20th of April 2006, I received a multiple entry Non-Immigrant "O" Visa from the Thai Embassy in London; expiry date was 19th April, 2007.

I entered Thailand on the 18th of July, 2006, and received a 90 day Visa. On the 12th of August, 2006, I went to the Phuket Immigration Office and received a stamp which says Application of Stay is permitted to 17th July, 2007, with RETIREMENT in big letters above it. I also received a multiple entry re-enry permit, which also expired on the 17th of July, 2007.

On the 9th of June, 2007, I went back to the Phuket Immigration Office, and received another Application of Stay stamp, again with RETIREMENT stamped across it; this expires on the 17th July, 2008. I also got another multiple re-entry permit, which expires on the same date.

I am now about to renew this last Retirement stamp, but am not at all sure whether I need to renew my original Non-Immigrant "O" Visa before I visit the Immigration Office here in Phuket.

So I guess I have 4 questions:-

1. Is the current stamp actually a Retirement Visa?

2. Do I need another Non-Immigrant "O" Visa before I ask to extend my stay for another year?

3. If I do, does that have to be issued from an Overseas Embassy/Consulate?

4. If I don't, can I just keep renewing my current stamp forever?

Sorry for showing my ignorance - any clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

1. It is an extension of stay for the reason of retirement, a so-called retirement extension.

2. No.

4. Yes. Every year, at any time during the last 30 days of your permission to stay, you go to your immigration office and apply for a new extension of stay.

Yes, the current RETIREMENT stamp is an extension to stay for one year. Of course you have to report you address every 90 days, or 90 days from your last entry into Thailand. As you always purchase a RE-Entry Permit (multi) I assume That you exit Thailand frequently.

No, You do not need another Non-Imm ‘O’ Visa

You can continue renewing yearly provided you continue to meet the 800,000 Baht requirement.
