Just a quicky:-

My gf and I plan to apply for a fiancee visa. Dates etc. haven't been settled but one possibility may be she comes to the UK in March next year. I may be in thailand in september or october. Is this too long to apply beforehand or do we need to do it one month before, 6 months etc?

It would make things easier if we could apply then as i could bring relevant docs. However, if we can't it may be an idea for her to come sooner or me to visit later.

Thanks in advance

What will happen when I make my application?

If you have been granted entry clearance as a husband, wife, civil partner, or unmarried or same-sex partner, you will need to enter the UK within 28 days of the start date shown on your visa. You should tell the Entry Clearance Officer the exact date on which you will be travelling before your visa is issued. (You can ask for it to be post-dated for up to three months if you do not plan to travel immediately).

13.16 - Entry clearance endorsements

Entry clearances issued to a fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner should be endorsed ‘D: MARRIAGE/CP’. LTE 6 MONTHS CODE 3.

Thanks Vinny - exactly what I needed to know! Looks like she'll have to come earlier, or I'll have to visit later! (She gets her bonus beginning of February and then has to give one month's notice - she gets about 40,000B and doesn't want to miss out so I may have to visit later)

I applied for my other half's fiance visa just under 3 months ahead of the date we stated she was travelling. I think 3 months ahead is the limit.
