Hello, all,

I'm relocating from Anchorage, AK to Thailand this Fall to be with my long time TGF. I'll rent my house here as it's not advantageous to sell at present. I'm preparing for the move by downsizing, selling furniture and other possesions because long-term storage is expensive here. I'm reluctant to make a long-term move with only checked baggage and hand-carry items. I'm asking for advice regarding shipping household goods (clothing, music CD's, photo albums, kitchen gadgets, etc.) at my own expense. I don't know exactly where we'll reside but it will probably be Isaan as that is where she's from. I have a multi-entry non res "O" visa but will apply far a retirement visa on arrival. Thanks!

Bring as little as possible! The wife and I shipped way to much and found out all was available here, for CD's, pictures and that type of items just FedX them as it is a lot less trouble and it is delv. to your house. Remember the electric is different here so either buy convertors or leave the items there. Also you may want to may want to look at getting your OA Retirement visa there and not have to worry about it , it is very easy to extend the permission to stay while in Thailand. Good Luck and welcome aboard.............

Check the forum posts carefully.

There are big problems with air freight into Thailand with corrupt agents and airport officials

running scams to fleece Falang.

Get a door to door delivery.

Don't try to ship to the airport and pick it up yourself - other members have reported

horror stories on trying to get their stuff.

Best of luck!
