Running Time For Filter

Featured Replies

Hi

Can anybody tell me for how long i should run the filter every day?, the pool is 7M x3M x1,3M, its fresh water, used about 3 times a week by 2 people, right now it run for 1 hour then down for 2 and then start again, is it better to run it for say 6 hours and then turn of?, Thx for your help.

My pool is about the same size as yours and when the centralized system screwed up the developer brought portable rigs around.

The portable was about as big as a rubbish bin/garbage can (about 20 gallons) and they ran it about 3 hours at a time, 2 or 3 times a week and I was quite happy with the water quality.

The recommendation for a domestic pool is that 1.5 time the volume of the pool is filtered every day. For most pools this is about 6-8 hours a day running time.

It is also recommended that the filtration system is run while in use, so in most cases 2 sets of 3-4 hours every day timed to include the normal times the pool is in use covers the needs.

6 - 8 hours per 24, is about right. Where most people come unstuck is miscalculating the size of the pump and the filter. generally a 22 - 24" filter with a 1.0 - 1.5 HP pump will do for most pools up to 100 m3. Pool firms however have a habit of installing equipment that is wickedly over engineered for the size of the pool, in order to maximise their profit.
