Jomtien Imm: Subsequent Retirement Extensions

Recommended Posts

As I see there has not been a reply to you stated clear question mainly nit picking and not on the subject.

Yes I would also like to know this answer for if you check some of my previous posting it is a topic close to my heart and I have been given different answers by different officers in the Bangkok office. Oh and I also had to go though this barrage of crap by some posters that did not answer the specific question at hand.

To this day I still do not know the answer to your posted question and I will be going for my 5th extension under the 800,000 rule. But I do not wish to be told by some stuck up officer who has had a bad day at the time I arrive at his or her desk that the 800,000 has to be in there for 3 months prior. So I will stick to the rules printed after being told last time that it is required in Bangkok office. That it MUST be new money every year and not a top up. Hence why the so called experts said I was wrong and it could be old money with top ups. I do not wish to be first taxi off the rank and try it out.

But I am sure I will get all the yes you can answers from people that most likely are not on the retirement visa. But as far as I know no one has tried to do it under the 3 months rules set down. I mean real retired people in the 800,00 group not the pension ones.

I hope we do get a name of an officer and person that has bent the rules topped up old money to make it 800,000 or had it under the 3 months required. Which will shows us the rules have changed slightly from the written ones.

Good luck. I can hear the answers coming but will they be directed to this subject and not hear say.

:o

Jingthing,

Why not just pop around to Soi 5 and ask the officer manning the information desk one of these days? I'd like an answer to this question, too.

Regards.

Good question. This is my answer. You may not like it.

Because I don't think it would mean anything!

The person at the information desk is not the same as officers processing the extensions.

As I already said, I was told clearly what the policy was by an actual officer doing my extension. As were other people who were TOLD this and have reported that before on other threads.

Also, if I fully trusted what I was TOLD at immigration, I wouldn't have even started this thread as I was told it was OK to transfer in the money the DAY BEFORE your meeting. I am looking for REAL LIFE verification here, not more words from an officer who could easily sing a different tune the next day.

The only real way we can know how this is ACTUALLY being applied is for some people to put their heinie on the line and test what I and others were told in real life reality. I don't blame people for not wanting to be guinea pigs, either do I, but if you were (either intentionally to test the rule or by accident/circumstance, for example a difficulty with a delay in your transfer), it would be helpful to others to report what ACTUALLY happened.

To review this so that we don't get people not understanding this issue:

It is only about Jomtien office

It is only people going for SUBSEQUENT extensions based on retirement (not first time extenders)

It is only for people who are using the 800K baht in a Thai bank account to qualify (no pension letter)

It is only for people who can read (sorry!)

A good thread. I symphthize and understand your frustration in the lack of response to your OP. I can only respond (off topic) that at Sriracha the 3 month rule is applied to subsequent extensions.

As you have had this thread running for almost a month and have had no actual cases reported of success or failure with top ups less than 3 months prior to application, should we be concluding that nobody has been game, or in the situation, to test the rule at Jomtien?

Thanks bgood.

I don't think we can conclude anything of the kind, for certain. Not everyone reads or posts on TV. I find it hard to believe that multiple people have not actually done the scenario described. I would bet money they had no problem and got their extensions, but not that much money.

As long as this still remains a question mark for Jomtien, I would like to see this thread stay more or less alive, in case some people do eventually post with their actual experiences, pro or con.

Jingthing,

That's a good and honest reply. I for one also do not want to be a guinea pig in this case.

Looking ahead, just in case you don't get an answer, is there an interest-bearing account with a decent rate available with SCB? I don't mind having the 800K in the bank (in fact I keep a lot more than that at all times in Thailand) but I do object to having to keep it for 90 days in an account paying zero interest (the standard savings account).

An alternative solution might be to use the combined method. Lopburi said above that the 90 days seasoning rule has never applied to a mixture of income and cash. Most of us will probably have a small savings account overseas providing some interest, much less than 65K Baht/month, so get Barry Kenyon to issue a letter for that small amount, and then top up your bank account with sufficient cash a few days before applying for the extension. Would that work? The downside is that the letter costs (I think) 2400 Baht, so it makes a hefty dent in the extra income you earn by not putting the 800K in a black hole for 3 months.

My second retirement extension is due in December, so at the start of September I have to know what it's best to do. That's only 6 or 7 weeks or so away, not long at all. Probably not long enough for this thread to reach a conclusion, judging by the responses so far.

If you have not touched the 800K then what are you living on?

That is the question the Immigration officer is going to ask..............

disagree. without looking it up, i,m on my fourth or fithe extension. put money in three months before first application, never touched said money till this year and never been asked what i live on. everyone has a different story eh.?
