The only one that could affect us, on this forum, would be The Amendment to the Condominium Act, which allows foreigner to own more than 49% of a Condominium (in certain condition).

Study finds senators are incompetent

Poor losing faith in charter guardians

(Penchan Charoensuthipan-thanks Bangkok Post)

Senators have failed to prove themselves pillars of democracy, having displayed incompetence in monitoring the affairs of the state, a study by the Campaign for Democracy (CFD) has concluded.

The CFD released a report of a study to mark the third anniversary of the elected Senate.

It found that although the Senate is supposed to be apolitical, many senators have political attachments and display poor ethics.

Suriyasai Taksila, CFD secretary-general, said the findings would be conveyed to the 200 senators and copies distributed to the public to give people material on which to base their decisions at the 2006 elections.

Although present senators would be barred from seeking re-election, they would probably get relatives to contest the election and give them a platform from which to exert influence.

People expected the Senate to be a pillar of democracy, but their faith dwindled after they witnessed senators failing to monitor the government, engaging in power squabbles and immoral conduct, taking bribes and turning a blind eye to political interference in the selection of independent agencies.

Mr Suriyasai said senators were behaving no differently from many self-interested MPs.

Suvit Watnu, a CFD adviser, said poor people in particular felt senators had failed to perform. Charnvit Aramrit, an adviser, said if the Senate sided with the government, the last hope of national accountability would be gone.

HOWEVER.....

PM backs pay rise for MPs

(Mongkol Bangprapa -thanks B.P.)

A pay rise for MPs and SENATORS will be considered if the idea is backed by the leaders of political parties with members in parliament.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra gave the undertaking in the House yesterday. MP Vichai Chaichitvanichkul,  said a pay rise would be timely, given that the economy had improved.

The prime minister said he had long been uneasy with the salaries paid, because they had been frozen a long time.

Mr Thaksin estimated it would cost about 400 million baht to increase the annual salaries of the 500 MPs and 200 senators to a fair level.

The government was ready to consider a rise if the leaders of the political parties signed a proposal backing the idea, he said.

Maybe thats why the visa price has increased?
