In early May, I arrived in Thailand on a "12 Month, multiple entry Non-immigrant B" visa. I came to teach at a high school. The school was very keen to bring me in and to give me a job but reluctant to be involved in the WP process. I was told I had to take care of it myself but could possibly get help with filling of the forms. As they offered good pay, I agreed.

The Thai consulate I applied to get my Non-B in Australia easily provided me with the visa I applied for. They weren't even going to ask me if I had a letter from my employer but, since I had tried so hard to get the employer to send one to me, I showed it to them anyway. Then, they eagerly offered the "12 month multiple entry".

However, after working with them only a few weeks I have left this employer for several good reasons and found new employment to start in mid August. I had not started applications for a WP for the initial position. The new employer is now asking me to transfer over my application to them but I have no application started. My initial 90 days will be up on 9th of Aug.

My question is, can I not start my application now with my new employer? The new employer seems to think that I should go out of the country and reapply for another non B through them because they say the initial visa was relevant to the previous employer.

Is this really correct? Or what happens in a situation like this? I would really appreciate some guidance.

You have the required non immigrant visa entry so it does not matter - just make the application. And be aware any work without that work permit puts you in danger - you should not be working without it.

Thank you very much for responding lopburi3, you've put my mind at ease.

I'll get on with the application straight away and, no worries about getting caught, for I won't be starting the new job until the second half of August.

Cheers
