Hello, All,

Family service band walky talkies (sometimes called handy talkies) are popular with sportspeople and others in the U.S. They are battery operated, line-of-sight and have a range of from 2 to 6 kilometers and are about the size of a cigarette pack. They are good for keeping in touch while in a two car caravan, for example. Are they allowed / legal in Thailand? Thanks

They are legal as long as they tested and certified from the Thai Government. They using mainly the 2m Band, 140+ MHz. The cheapest place to buy tn Thailand is in Bangkoks Chinatown at Klong Thom Market.

Cheers.

Hmmm.. Sounds like bringing the two Motorola units I already own will be more trouble than they are worth if "getting them tested and certified by the Thai Gov't" is required. Your thoughts, please? Thanks for your quick reply

Family service band walky talkies in Thailand are on 245 MHZ(red radio). no license required. The 2m Band radios require's a Thai Ham License to operate in Thailand.
