I am trying to call a bank in Australia. I tried 008 61 then the number and 007 61 then the number but neither of them works, all I get is the beep beep indicating the number is engaged....

I am on TOT calling from Pai...

Can anyone help,

Hi Niloc, have you tried 0061. Also if calling the brisbane area they've had Optus problems from a cut fibre optic cable.

Thanks guys, I tried both of those but no joy, just beep beep and then nothing...

Maybe it is my phone?

Farma, I am not dialling Brisbane, it is a Melbourne number, 61 3 etc....

001 61 xxxxxxx should work (009 is much cheaper but not always available, same with 008 etc.), from a mobile +61 is the equivalent of 001 61.

BUT

Your line / mobile is enabled for IDD calling isn't it?

Its OK, I got through, the bloody phone was switched off!!

Now I have rung three times adding up to at least 20 minutes and it still doesn't work! All I am trying to do is get my internet banking working but they cannot read my phone numbers....

Now I have it down pat, if I can just make a call on a mobile phone, the numbers on the keypad will be recognised by the system. How do I dial an international number on a mobile phone? I have to borrow one but when I tried in my wife's phone, nothing happened....

Getting there....

I had problems using my mobile to call the UK because I had 0044 instead of +44. maybe that could be your problem. Thailand is the only country I have had to do this, no idea why.

On TOT you need to use 007 (premium) or 008 (budget), then the country code - 61 for Australia, then the area code and phone number, but without the first zero of the area code.
