MAS to reduce capacity and frequency

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plans to start cutting capacity and frequency either end-August or September as it projects load factors will drop due to a slowdown in air travel.

The airline is projecting forward demand to drop by six to seven per cent.

MAS executive director and chief financial officer, Tengku Azmil Zahruddin, said routes that would be affected were the Americas, North Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe, South Asia and the region.

MAS will also use smaller aircraft on some routes that are experiencing low load factors such as New Zealand and Australia.

The airline may decide to cut back on its daily return Kuala Lumpur-Los Angeles route. It is also considering reducing frequencies to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Might have been easier to simply say system-wide. :o
