Can you guys give me advice I am really confused now.

I thought I can go to Penang or KL to apply for a multiple non imm.O visa. I have all the papers

according to the agent over there, every thing is in order. But he tells me I need also

800.000 baht in the bank. But I am not asking for a retirement visa why do I have to show that

amount? If I do really need to have that amount in my bank I would be better of going back to

Australia pay the airfaire, apply for the same type of visa and I don't have to prove how much I

do have in my bank account and just come back.

...But he tells me...

He, who?

Why not go to the Consulate yourself. Then you will know whats what.
I deceided I will and I take my wife along as well. But what do I do if they tell me the same thing? Just ask for a single one? and what to do after that ?

If you want a multiple entry non immigrant o visa then Kuala Lumpur is your best bet. They appear to be the only place in the region that are still issuing multi entry....Penang you might well end up with only 90 days.

Take along copies of marriage certificate, wifes tabien baan (housebook),proof of finances that you will be able to support your wife and a letter from your wife to the consulate asking them to issue a visa so that you can take care of her.

The 800,000 baht is for an extension of a non-o visa based on retirement....you dont want that one.

The Thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur has its own website, including phone numbers so maybe give them a ring beforehand.

Good luck.

This is the first time I hear about proof of 800k in the bank being asked in Penang for a multiple-entry non-O visa to visit Thai wife. Perhaps Jim in Penang is a little confused.

Fred2007, I have not seen anyone say you were confused, but I suggested the possibility that Jim, the person in Penang who gave you that information, might be a little confused.

This may be Penangs way of saying no thinks to multi entry visa issue (unless you meet a much higher level than most).
ok I know you are trying to help me but what happen if I get there and they say, I am sorry

we can not issue a multiple one. What do I do after that ?

You should not even be going to Penang if you want a multi - KL is the current place to visit for that. I am sure you can get a single entry in Penang (with the normal paperwork) but not sure at all that you would get more.

But if you want to try there is nothing preventing you from traveling on to KL if they say no in Penang.

With the wife believe your chance in KL is very good. In Penang we have not seen much reporting (due to the earlier experiences) but do not believe it is anywhere nearly as likely as KL. All we can provide is our best guess. There will always be some that get the short stick for one reason or another. It would be good to take a bank account book with you in case asked (many are - but even without many get).
