Effective on 23 AUG 2008 at 8:00 AM adjusting the time forward to 8:30 AM. Working citizens must be sure to wake up 30 minutes earlier for work.

ATMs, banks, workplaces, ISPs, mobile couriers, communications media will all adjust their time accordingly to the new time otherwise will risk facing fines.

จากความเหลื่อมล้ำทางเวลาของไทย จนทำให้ไม่เป็นมาตรฐาน สถาบันมาตรวิทยากระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์ และเทคโนโลยี จึงดำเนินการปรับเปลี่ยนเวลาของไทยใหม่ทั่วประเทศ เพื่อให้ถูกต้องแม่นยำตามหลักสากล

ทั้งนี้ เมื่อวันที่ 5 สิงหาคม พล.อ.ต.ดร.เพียร โตท่าโรง ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันมาตรวิทยาแห่งชาติ เปิดเผยว่า ขณะนี้สถาบันมาตรวิทยาฯ จะดำเนินการปรับเปลี่ยนเวลาของประเทศ ไทยใหม่ทั่วประเทศ เพื่อให้ถูกต้องแม่นยำตามหลักสากล เพราะที่ผ่านมามาตรฐานเวลาของไทยไม่เคยตรงกัน ซึ่งจะเป็นไปตามประกาศกระทรวงเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศและการสื่อสาร (ไอซีที) เรื่องหลักเกณฑ์การเก็บรักษาข้อมูลจราจร ทางคอมพิวเตอร์ของผู้ให้บริการ พ.ศ. 2550 ถูกต้องแม่นยำตามหลักสากล ซึ่งจะมีพระราชบัญญัติ ว่าด้วยการกระทำความผิด

โดยจะทำการปรับเวลาประเทศไทยให้เร็วกว่าเวลาปัจจุบัน 30 นาที ตัวอย ่าง ปัจจุบันเวลา 8 :30 น.จะต้องปรับเป็น 8 :00 น. เพราะฉะนั้นประชาชนชาวไทยทั้งประเทศจะต้องตื่นเร็วกว่าปกติ 30 นาที เพื่อรักษาสภาพการดำเนินชีวิตให้เหมือนเดิมปกติ ก่อนที่จะมีการปรับเวลา โดยมีผลบังคับใช้ในวันที่ 23 สิงหาคมนี้

โดยกำหนดให้ผู้ประกอบ 4 ประเภท ดังนี้

1. ผู้ ประกอบกิจการโทรคมนาคมและกิจการกระจายภาพและเสียง อาทิ ผู้ให้บริการโทรศัพท์ขั้นพื้นฐาน โทรศัพท์ เคลื่อนที่ ผู้ให้บริการเอทีเอ็ม เป็นต้น

2. ผู้ให้ บริการการเข้าถึงระบบเครือข่ายคอมพิวเตอร์ อาทิ ผู้ให้บริการอินเตอร์เน็ต เจ้าของหอพัก โรงแรม หน่วยราชการ บริษัทต่างๆ เป็นต้น

3. ผู้ให้บริการเช่าระบบคอมพิวเตอร์

4. ผู้ให้บริการร้านอินเตอร์เน็ตต่างๆ

ทั้งนี้ผู้ให้บริการทั้งหมด ต้องปฏิบัติตามกฎหมายอย่างเคร่งครัด หากไม่ปฏิบัติตามตามกฎหมายของกระทรวงไอซีที จะต้องมีโทษปรับประมาณ 1-5 แสนบาท

พล.อ.ต.ดร.เพียรกล่าวอีกว่า สำหรับประชาชนทั่วไป หากต้องการตั้งเวลาให้เป็นมาตรฐาน ขณะนี้สถาบันมาตรวิทยาฯ ได้ประสานกับกรมอุทกศาสตร์ กองทัพเรือ เพื่อตั้งเวลามาตรฐานสำหรับประเทศไทยแล้ว และกำลังประสานกับกรมประชาสัมพันธ์ เพื่อเทียบเวลาผ่านทางสถานีวิทยุเอฟเอ็ม เพื่อให้ประชาชนเทียบเวลาทางวิทยุเอฟเอ็มได้ แต่ต้องมีตัวสัญญาณรับที่เรียกว่า ไทม์ เซิร์ฟเวอร์ ติดที่นาฬิกาที่ต้องการจะเชื่อมกับสัญญาณเอฟเอ็มด้วย ในส่ว นนี้ทางสถาบันมาตรวิทยาฯ จะประ

It's about time !!! This is a very time-ly subject !! Will they set the atomic clock to Thai time ? My time is running short, now they want 30 more minutes from me. Me thinks it is a conspirousy of the people running the pension plans in the world. How many of us old farts can

expire in those 30 minutes ? I'm sure they have run the numbers.

I think this is just an exaggeration of the "clock synching" that is to be conducted on August 23rd. Thailand wants to get all the radio stations playing the national anthem in sync and maybe schools, trains, buses and airlines schedules too, but surely that's a lower priority.

Wish entire South east Asia had the same time zone.

But this is not particularly Thailand (TIT).

Portugal has actually changed the time back and fort a few times!

They used CET (Central European Time) in the years 1966–76 and 1992–96.

The last time they canged (to UTC), they forgot to inform the entire world, resulting in shipping companies and airlines changing their schedules in the last minute.

Vietnam is in the same time zone as Thailand.

Funny, I've never noticed that Malaysia and Thailand are in the time zones. The clocks always seem to be one hour ahead of Thailand when I am there. Maybe somebody should inform the Malaysians of their error? And the information in the following two scholarly pages seems to not back up your assertion about Lee Kwan Yew:
