August 22, 200817 yr Hello, (this may need to be in another thread) My name is Jason and I just moved here from Pattaya. I work as a Deep Saturation Diver and have just landed a great job with a fantastic rotation. I have always wanted to have a hobby, but before this job, my free time was reserved for heavy alcohol consumption. I have sole custody of my son, 12, and he and I are looking for a hobby we can do together. We tried a garden back in Pat, but bugs, birds, and various and sundry critters ate all of our growth. I have looked at indoor growing, and have become interested in Hydroponics. My favorite things in the world are Beefsteak Tomatoes, and Black Eyed Peas. I saw a hydroponic place in Phuket, but I have yet to stop by. They have a sign with lettuce, but I am more interested in other vegetation. Okra, Field Peas, ... Does anyone know about hydroponics here in Phuket? Any help would be very much appreciated.
August 22, 200817 yr I second the request, living in a condo the concept of a small, easily-sustainable garden sounds great...anyone with experience?
August 22, 200817 yr I second the request, living in a condo the concept of a small, easily-sustainable garden sounds great...anyone with experience? There's a company in Bangkok that specializes in the equipment and even has the special seeds required. You might try googling 'ACK' I'm not sure if I can put the link on here though so try google. There are a number of local manufacturers too and there gear is cheaper. Whether it will last as long is anyone's guess. Good luck with the green thumbs, AjarnP
March 7, 200917 yr Further to this does anyone know of a place in Phuket selling hydroponic equipment. Seem to recall a place on Chao Fa road a while back. Can't seem to find again.

March 9, 200917 yr Florin: if you can grow cannabis you can for sure grow tomatoes, just why?! Such a waste of energy! I have some experience, but definitely not in veggies, so I don't know if I can be any help

To infer what you might be inferring would be against the law of this land, and also the forum rules. I'm also reasonably interested in hydroponics for growing my own produce. I miss salads. Sharp, crisp and fresh salads. Not the limp stuff you can buy on the markets here. I wonder what the set up and running costs are to set all this up for the household producer. Anyone know?
March 10, 200917 yr Are vegetables code for something else here? I ran a hydroponics store as an undercover operation for the government in the USA some years ago. With rare exception all of the customers became "targets" and were later arrested for growing "vegetables". This would be very dangerous in Thailand. Not recommended.

I always wondered why the gov't didn't target hydroponics shops in the US, now I know why.....They ran the things.

It would end up being the most expensive salad you ever ate! Set up costs in the UK (small rig) were about 1000 GBP + monthly electric & water costs. Google growell in the UK if you want to look at a decent website.

It was just a little joke ;-) I'm fully aware of a fascist law of this country ;-) The cost of electricity wouldn't make it reasonable, it works out for weed, for veggies even Villa would be cheaper and easier ;-) 600W bulb for sqm would be minimum and you have to use it for 16h/day for growth period, don't know about flowering (12h for devil plant )
