Open Mri

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of an Open MRI machine in Bangkok. I need an MRI and I am a bit claustrophobic.

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, never heard of one in bangkok, the one at Vibhavadhi hospital was very tight for me, definitely Thai size.

My wife is also a bit claustrophobic and the first time she did an MRI at Bumrungrad she panicked. They gave her medication (valium?) and she did fine after that.

Maybe check with Hitachi, as they produce open end MRI's.

Note for gymshark: MRI's are not produced especially for the thai/asian market. The internal diameter depends on the brand but usually is 50-55cm.

The best thing to do is simply close your eyes and take a nap before it slides you in, and keep your eyes closed until it's finished. There's a speaker inside, so you'll be able to hear anything when the technicians speak to you. There's nothing to be afraid of and although the units seem pretty narrow, they aren't completely enclosed. Talk to your physician as well as the technicians before so they can explain the process to you and help you overcome your fears. The only thing I don't like about MRI scanners is that they can be pretty noisy during the scan.

If Thailand wants to compete in the International Medical Tourist scene, someone in Bangkok needs to procure an Open MRI.
