Neeranam Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 Hi, Just a quickie, can I buy a car in my name if I have a work permit?
Axel Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 Hi, Just a quickie, can I buy a car in my name if I have a work permit? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> More quickie answer: Yes. I did it once, WP, extented permission to stay, was enough. Forgot if they wanted an address confirmation by the embassy, I think so but not sure anymore.
Neeranam Posted November 20, 2004 Author Posted November 20, 2004 Thanks for your super fast reply Axel
Thetyim Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 You do not have to have a WP to register a car The WP is used as confirmation of address.
PeaceBlondie Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 Agree that WP is not needed to register a motor vehicle. To register the new motorcycle I bought, I only needed to go to Immigration and verify my address, then give that verification to the dealer, who got me my plates and green registr. book. No WP.
astral Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 It is your visa status that is more important than the work permit.
PeaceBlondie Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 It is your visa status that is more important than the work permit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks, astral; good point. I got my registration by showing my B visa at immigration. I take it a tourist visa wouldn't suffice?

A Tourist Visa won't do
RamdomChances Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 I think they are on about owning a car in your own name not getting a driving licence. I think you can own a car in your own name with a tourist visa, but as the Dr stated you need a Non-immigrant for the driving licence
PeaceBlondie Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Ramdom, the good doctor is more than able to answer for himself, but we know what the OP said. In some countries, the vehicle is licensed and the metal plate is a license plate.
RamdomChances Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 You are probably right, in which case he does not need you to answer for him.

PeaceBlondie Posted November 21, 2004 Posted November 21, 2004 Pardon me, dear doctor, but he used the plural pronoun, "they." Thank you for not explaining why you are the only one who introduced the term "license" and I shall try to refrain from stating what I think 'we' know. I happen to know full well where we happen to be. Neeranam, thank you for your appreciation.

Axel Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 What's this all about? Neerenram wanted to know "Can I Own A Car With A Work Permit?" The answer is Yes. Imho, since he has a WP he has as well a non-imm.

The work permit must be gotten in another manner.

RamdomChances Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 To licence a pardon I think you need a non-imigrent visa, but I belive you can own a pardon with just a tourist visa, this is just for thailand and I am speaking just for myself, oh and I might be wrong
