May I suggest that people who feel the need to post rumors please wait until they've heard it from at least more than one source? And even better, wait until it comes from a verifiable news source?

Posting rumors on the internet is not necessarily helpful, often damaging, and there are many who will believe what they read as fact.

To which, it seems, I must apologise - as the poster of, I suppose, the rumour that you are referring to. In my defence, I did ask if anyone else knew anything about it, and if there was any truth to it.

Do you count the Samui Express as a "verifiable news source"?

Talk about citing rumour as fact... :o

What about the thread about what the hospital did to that guy's friend? Do things like that need to be coroberated by a 2nd source? Or that story of the bar owner who skipped out that many members coroberated but was still taken down as rumor.

i feel rumour-mongering is rife and also very welcome, not everything can initially be verified and by seeing it here first, questions are asked and the truth will out, is there any legal text that can be placed at the beggining of rumours e.g. 'the facts are not yet confirmed however thaivisa and the poster are not responsible for 'chinese whispers' and someone ultimately being embarrassed by a tropical disease of the nether regions' :o

I enjoy the rumor-threads and quite oftenly they turn out to be true. There´s not often smoke without a fire..... :o .

However, the op did not say "stop posting rumors". Seems to me it´s just a suggestion to anybody posting rumors that they should hear it more than once before posting. Sounds like a fair enough suggestion to me.

Offcourse the optimal is when you have everything you post verified by reliable sources, but i dont see how the forum could ever survive such a request. Thats kind of boring. This is not a encyclopedia. This is more of a fun board and everything you read here you need to take with a little bit of skeptisism (i bet thats not even a word in Englich!). I doubt there is anybody saying "now i´m gonna look up facts, lets go to a public forum". Take it for what it is, and we can all still have fun!

Last week when I was at my layer, she told me that her sister tried to get on to the ferry.

She could not, because of the PAD demonstrations.

Is this considered as a rumor and could I get banned for posting it? :o

I believe you only get those emails if you ask for them, if you track a topic or some such thing. There must be a way to undo this tracking. Do yo need help with that? --> Forum Support Desk

A thread was deleted on the request of MULTIPLE members because it was a scare-mongering rumor. So, instead of actually reading what I have posted here many of you have chosen to read into what is clearly a suggestion based on the posts of multiple members in that now deleted thread to try and use some sense when posting.

May I SUGGEST that you READ the OP before leaping to false conclusions and making erroneous judgments.
