Tourist Police arrest Long Neck Hill-Tribe illegal workers in Sattahip.

Following orders from Police Major General Atagrit, the National Commander of Tourist Police, Police Captain Suprapan, a sub-inspector at Pattaya’s Tourist Police Station led an operation to arrest a group of illegal immigrants thought to be working at Kow Shee Jang in Sattahip.

The group of illegal immigrants who come from the mountains in North Thailand are not classed as Thai Nationals and are easily recognizable by their long necks covered by metal rings.

The Galiang People also known as the Karen Long Neck Hill-tribe can often be seen in Thailand but they are not permitted to work in Thailand without work permits and visas. The team of Tourist Police Officers located a Galiang village at the location which replicates their dwellings in the mountains of North Thailand.

It has been set up as a Tourist attraction. A total of 11 Galiang People were arrested and taken to the Immigration Office for deportation. Khun Wirasak, a Thai national, was arrested in connection with the Galiang People and was charged with harboring illegal immigrants.

How are they illegal if they are Thai ( from N Thailand ) ?

They are a hill tribe but are classified as Burmese NOT Thai. It has been a long going dispute between them and the Thai government. Even their children born in Thailand are not given Thai classification which means that if it is available the are allowed to attend government Primary schools but are excluded from secondary. This limits their choice of employment and further education. Various NGO schools cater for them and other similar ethnic groups in the North and North East

So when the Report says they will be deported, they will deport them to Myanmar/Burma right, even though they live in & come from Thailand ??

Mr Confused.

Yes, the good people of Pattaya can sleep sound in their beds content in the knowledge that this heinous band of hardened criminals have been taken out of circulation.

It's also good to see that no less a rank of Police Major General also the National Commander of Tourist Police was on hand to prove that no crime is too small to be missed by his eagle eyes and nose for publicity.

What happens to them depends on a wide range of factors. In a nutshell they are classified as foreign illegals and are automatically deported in accordance to the law. However in Burma they are a minority tribal group and persecuted so various NGOs who support them and orgarnisations such as Amnesty Internation will represent them in court. The probable outcome will be that they are sent to a detention camp and then into a refugee camp on the border near Chiang Rai. From there they are back to where they started ie dirt poor, without a home and no future for themselves or their children.

Caught them at jenny star bar did they ?,." Easily Recognisable By Their Ring-Pieces " :D

Interesting phraseology by Libya - in British English Slang, the term 'ring-piece' certainly has nothing to do with what someone might wear around their neck!

:o

No sh*t... Sherlock....

Well, they are in deep sh*t now aren't they ? A whole heap of sh*t from the sounds of it.

Instead of being Up Sh*t Creek without a Paddle, they are there with just their ring-pieces.

Sh*tty situation any way you look at it.

The Sh*t hasn't hit the fan, but the ring-pieces have !

Guess they'll have to pack their sh*t and go somewhere else.

If they had their sh*t together, they would have been working on WS instead (making a sh*t load more money) !

Just shows how what an appalling society Thailand really is. The long kneck Karen have absolutely no rights but in the north are kept imprisoned in tourist villages. They need their Thai handlers to arrange everything for them as they are not even allowed to drive a car or leave their compounds. They are in a human zoo exploited for a pittance by Thais but iT'S THE TOURISTS WHO PAY TO SEE THEM THAT KEEP THE WHOLE MACHINE GOING.

Those arrested in Pattaya were kidnapped by some Thais and set up as a tourist attraction several months ago and it was reported in the Thai press - I guess they were arrested because their Thai handlers no longer paid bribes to the police.

My advice to all tourists is always - never visit tourist attractions in Thailand that involve captive animals or humans on display, including of course all zoos.

Long Neck Karen arrested at Sattahip are released to carry on selling souvenirs

Patcharapol Panrak

A number of Long Neck Karen people who were arrested on charges of being illegal immigrants have been bailed out by their employer and are now back at work at Kao Cheejan Village in Sattahip.

The businessman, Weerasak Yainak, age 48, of Huafai Sub-district, Kaendong District, Buriram Province was also detained. He was charged with supporting and harboring illegal foreigners who entered the country. All of the accused were sent to Pol Lt Col Padungsak Suekamnod, investigator at Sattahip Police Station to continue the case.

On September 18, the 11 arrested people were bailed by Weerasak at Pattaya Provincial Court for 400,000 baht, and they returned to their compound at Sattahip to resume business. However, on the first day only four Thai tourists turned up to buy goods from them.

I guess now that the right people have been properly "informed", it's OK for business to resume.
