Nick999 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Hi After too many years in the UK, I now have the opportunity to return to Bangkok. I will be working in the Lad Phrao area - and am very excited to be returning to the LOS (not teaching backpacker style this time either). My situation has changed somewhat since last time as I am married and have 2 kids. My children are aged 7 and 12. My wife is very keen for them not to miss too much school so I need to find a good British school asap. My wife is also keen on the PTA thing - not sure if that happens in Bangkok and how easy it is to get involved? As I say I will be in the Lad Phrao area and my wife does not want my children to travel too far to school. I have had a look on the internet and have found St John's and St Stephen's international schools in the area - in a price range that is acceptable - I am not sure if there are others? I am looking for any comments about these schools or any other schools in that area which people can reccomend? Thanks in advance Nick

Nick999 Posted September 11, 2008 Author Posted September 11, 2008 Welcome tot he fourm, we actually have a pinned thread at the top of the main page in this section where other parents have been discussing this. Hvae a read through you may get some other ideas or recommendations Thanks for the welcome. I did look through some of the thread, however, I have to admit as it is very long and some of it quite old, so I was not sure if relevant and up to date - and I did not look through it all! - sorry! There are many recommendations but I would like to keep my wife happy and not stray too far from Lad Phrao - I could not see any mention of schools in this area in the thread (if there was please direct me!) Thanks Nick
Boo Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 No worrries, I am sure some of the parents here will post soon. I just thought that might be a good starting point. I dont' live in BKK so can't recommend anything I'm afraid Hope all goes well with the move & tell your wife about our ladies section, quite a few of the women (thai & western) posting here are based in BKK & have the skinny on all things women related in the city.
geovalin Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Lard Prao is a very long road. If you are in the first sois, St John is indeed a good choice. I live in this area (easy life here) but my kids are in a cheap bilingual school. If you are around soi 100 and more, you can consider the school in the Ramkammaeng area. ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français ThaiVisa, it's also in French

I do not have a house finalised as yet, am planning on being at first sois end. Hopefully not to far from the underground or Skytrain

Jimjim Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Regents is not too far from where you are and it's supposed to be a top school. It is quite far down a soi off of Ratchadapisek but it's an option. British, I believe. Possibly better than St. Johns. Well, it is, from what I've heard but only by world-of-mouth. People say it's top 5 along with schools like Shrewsbury, Bangkok-Patana, etc. Also, it doesn't look religious so no mass required. Guess it might be, but found no evidence of such on their website. http://bangkok.regents.ac.th/ Edit: Also if I remember correctly where St. Stephens is then it'd probably be about the same distance. If it's in your price range you should really give it a visit, at least.
johnfb Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hello Nick, I am the headmaster of St. John's International School in Ladprao. We are a very good international school (Exam results very good and results improving year on year, numbers on roll increasing, small class sizes, excellent qualified British teachers and other staff, a warm friendly atmosphere and good facilities). It would be my pleasure to show you or any new parents around our campus. Feel free to PM me and I can arrange to give you my contact details. I am happy to put you in touch with some of our parents for an unbiased view of our school. I look forward to hearing from you, John ps..... our website can be found at www.international.stjohn.ac.th
Nick999 Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 John Thank you for the invitation. I will be in Bangkok in a couple of weeks - will contact you when I know my plans Thanks again Nick

From your website your campus does indeed look great, unfortunately, the location of your school is not central enough to the MRT / BTS for my family. Nick
