My partner and I are not married but we are having a baby girl in the next few weeks.

When she Is born I can receive an O visa,Does this mean when we marry I can stay on this visa without showing 400000 baht as my brain Is mashed with all the rules and regulations. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

No. You can use the child as a reason to have family visits and obtain an O visa but that will not allow you to stay in Thailand more than 90 days. Only support would meet that requirement be it for a child or wife. You will still need to meet the 400k or income requirements the same as anyone else.

Thanks Lopburi,However I generally only stay 3 months at a time and go back to work In London.

Do I have to show this amount before having a legal wedding or only If I want to stay for more than 3 months.

The income requirement is only if you want to extend you stay here one year at a time. You will not have to show it for periodic visits. What you will need is paperwork from UK Embassy that is then translated into Thai and registered at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and returned to you with a registry number. That will be used when you go to a District Office to register you marriage. Very easy process but you have to allow a day or two in Bangkok for that paper.

Thanks for your help Lopburi.

If I take this route however am I right In saying I would have to go to the embassy each time and renew my O visa for 3 months?

Take what route?

If you are going to be going back and forth every few months you obtain a non immigrant O visa in the UK and if you apply at one of the smaller Consulate you can probably obtain a multi entry type which would cover your trips to Thailand for up to 15 months. Each time you arrive in Thailand you get a 90 day stay stamp and if you need to stay longer you would have to cross a border/enter another country/return. This type of visa would be easier than getting a new single entry each time if you plan more than one or two visits each year. If not just obtain a new visa each time before you plan to return to Thailand.

I understand the meaning of your reply but I doubt if the person seeking advice did.. It is confused and ungrammatical, and I suggest unhelpful to anyone unfamiliar with what they percieve to be complex Thai inmmigration rules. I do not doubt your expertise but you appear to rush into replies more to impress with your expertise rather than try and understand exactly what the correspondent is asking. To answer his follow-up subsequent questions.

You can marry even without a visa. You will not have to provide details of income.

If you wish to stay for more than 3 months without leaving the country you need to obtain a visa, a condition of which is to show 400000 in a Thai bank or income of 40000 a month which will need to be transferred into a Thai bank. This is mandatory. This can be renwed every year. You will never need to leave the country.

If you do not meet the income requirement you can obtain a visa on the basis that you have a Thai wife and/or a Thai child without proof of income but only for a max of 12 months and you will need to exit and re-enter Thailand every 90 days.

You can obtain a visa for another 12 months but only outsie Thailand.

I have lived in Thailand for 3 years and regularly visited this site. I have only recently joined however because I am annoyed at the poor, sometimes misleading, confused and frequently wrong or mischevious advice.

If you see a post from Dr Pat Pong or George it is reliable otherwise treat with utmost caution. Lopburi3 is next best but tries to impress rather than help.
