Has anyone visited the Rose Gardens outside of Bangkok and is it a worthwhile side trip along with the Floating Market? If not, any other recommendations for visits in conjunction with the Floating Market?

Thanks for info - June

If you want to travel east from Bangkok to the Rose Garden, there is a smaller floating market you can visit which involves a boat trip from Wat Raiking. Do a search on Youtube and you'll find a couple of videos.

Hi

It really depends on what interests you.

I have stayed at the hotel and it was ok but not something exceptional.

The gardens are lovely and they have an elephant show as I recall.

I stayed there as it held a reasonably large dog show and many thai's attended the show purely to see the kings dog who, as you would expect, was treated like royalty.

I would not bother going there again unless there was a major dog show there, but it is reasonably quiet and if you like flowers and a bit of thai style wooden buildings, in your postition I would drop in for a half day but only if I were in the area

I recommend the Rose Garden to tourists who will have only a brief stay in Thailand and are short of tour time. It is extremely touristy but gives some overview of Thai culture (silk making, elephants, wedding ceremony, muay Thai fighting, sword fighting, ordination ceremony, etc.) Some visiting friends of mine went to Rose Garden recently and it fit their bill perfectly because they got to see/do things that they wanted to do in Thailand without traveling around the country (ie having picture on an elephant). If you have seen it once, you probably don't want to see it again.

Does anyone remember TIMLAND in the mid-1960s?? I am told that it was the predecessor to the Rose Garden. I enjoyed playing the Rose Garden golf course one time.

For a first time tourist, the Rose Garden is worth a visit. It at least gets you away from the Bangkok traffic.

The Floating Market is a bit of a disappointment. You may like to consider the Rice Barge Cruise in stead.

Visited Timland when on R&R from Viet Nam in 1968, I remember it was outside of Bkk but do not remember where, It was about the same distance as the Rose Garden, I think. My forgeter is better than my rememberer :o
