Golf Courses

Gidday all, am heading over early next year for a bit of R & R. The mates and I are real golf nuts and hope to play every second day (well maybe everyday) we have been to Phuket a couple of times, but this is our first time in Pattaya. Wondering if any golfers over there have info on courses. In Phuket we paid about 3000Bht a round which became pretty expensive after awhile.

Probably worth joining Pattaya Sports Club whilst you're here. Think it's around 900 Baht but once you get a membership card you get some good discounts on most of the course around Pattaya. Also some discounts at hotels and restaurants. You'll pay for the cost of joining after 2-3 rounds usually. They're clubhouse is at the North end of Third Road, next to the driving range. Take a passport photo with you or they can photograph you there. It only takes about 10 mins to join.

Also, if you're here in low season look out for sports days - a lot of clubs have them and offer a discounted rate on 1 or 2 days of the week.

If you're really nuts about golf Plutaluang used to do a deal where you play unlimited rounds in 1 day for only 1 green fee, you just pay the caddy fees for both rounds.

They have 4 x 9s making 36 holes which is doable in a day.

Be sure you wear a belt if you go to Plutaluang.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are cheap at Plutaluang. Can't see many people playing 36 holes here in a day, bit of a brute (long and hilly) However, very good value. There are another 2 nearby at either end of Ban Chang, excellent value, and both are quite a bit shorter. Pattaya Country club is shorter and can be pleasant.

And there is always the charms of Ban Chang of an afternoon (don't ask me, I just heard about it from someone)

All the experts have spoken - however as a non-golfer I have often observed Keith from Caddy Shack doing a six o'clock presentation to all assembled at his restaurant/bar (Google it) for those guests and friends who have been out for a day's golf.

He has accommodation, organises mini-tournaments for those staying with him, so on.

Worth checking out, even if you devide to follow the more experienced guys.

Currently Plutoluong has extended their Sportsday pricing (Tues. & Thurs.) til the end of October. No more all you can play for 1 price but still best value around as most other courses end sports days Sept 30. Current prices are B400 green fees, B220 Caddy Fee + tip (B200 +). Carts are B600 for 2 riders or B400 for a single player. Only 27 holes open at the moment (they are redoing the North course) but it is supposed to be open in October.
