Family Visit Visa

Recommended Posts

I have been reading and I think I know the best way to go for my situtation. Could you tell me if I have it correct.

Here are the facts:

My goal is to retire early in thailand and come and go freely. I live in USA now.

I'm 43 years old.

I will have an income of about 80K baht a month from the government.

I have several million baht in my US bank.

I was married in thailand to a thai national about 5 years ago, shes here in the US now and were divorced but still very close.

I thought I would try to get a familiy visit visa from the Los Angeles Thai Consulate for 90 days. My wife will support me with the documentation.

Then get a one year mutli entry when a get to Thailand.

Then get a bank account and put 400K baht in it.

Then apply for a one year extension and continue to apply every year after that.

Does this sound about right or do i need ot do more reading?

I appreciate any input.

One other thing though. My wife/ex-wife will be living here in the US. Will she need to be in Thailand when I apply for these extensions and/or the one yeare multi entry visa.

officially, are you married or divorced?

Does she still have all her Thai documentation?

We were divorced in california about three years ago but realisticly only the local courthouse knows about that. We do have all the old marriage certificates, I don't know what house papers are but the form on the website for the Thai consulate in Los angeles only asks for a copy of the marriage ceritficate and her passport or ID card.

I don't know what's required for the extensions though.

Wife must be with you, living with you and supported by you here in Thailand and that status will be checked. You will not obtain an extension of stay without. And if you bring your ex here to lie for you there could be very serious problems for her.

If you have the funds to support yourself and wish to stay in Thailand do it without involving yourself and wife in fraud. It is still rather easy to obtain a multi entry O visa from a small Consulate and make 90 day visa runs until you retire or marry.

Thanks for the advice. I definitaly don't want to do anything illegal in thailand. The funds are no problem but what visa would I apply for before I leave for thailand. I went to the Los Angeles Thai consulate web site and read this forum but its not clear to me. I wuolld like to do what you suggest.

Thanks

I would use a visit or mail application to one of the Texas Honorary Consulates to obtain a multi entry o visa. That would allow up to 15 months stay with a border crossing every 90 days to get another 90 day stay stamp. You could call Houston at Tel. (713) 229-8733.
