Phuket and Krabi airports operate as normal while the PM already arrived in Surat Thani & Nakorn SriThamamarat.

(NBT TV Phuket, 11.30am Saturday 27 September 2008) The operation in Phuket and Krabi international airports are normal today, Saturday 27 September, while Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawas arrived at Surat Thani Airport in upper southern Thailand to travel by car to Nakorn Sri Thammarat, where he was born. Some media reports last night said the People Alliance of Democracy (PAD) members would block airports in the south to act against the PM’s visit. Phuket International Airport Director Wicha Nernlop reaffirmed today that the airport is operating as normal. Security at the airport is operating 24 hours as normal. It’s the same at Krabi airport where director Attaya Laopmak confirmed Krabi airport runs as normal with no protests. Somboon Jirayas, Phuket Tourist Association President believes that the local PAD would not block the airport anymore as “We all had lessons from the airport closure in late August”, he said. This coincides with coordinator of PAD’s network in Phuket who told our reporter that the PAD have some protest activities for the PM’s visit to southern Thailand, but certainly no airport blockade, so as not to disturb the public. They would do activities in other venues which are for political expression but not to cause public disturbance.

Newsflash. Tourists planning a trip need a lot more than 'believes' to convince them to take the chance.

Glad to read this.

I surely hope they learned a lesson and will not attempt to shut down the hand that feeds them (again.)
