Report Thaksin’s Trial Delayed: Court Postpones Hearing in Police Hospital Scandal
Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra arrives at the office of narcotics control board in Bangkok, Thailand, Tuesday, May 27, 2025. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit) BANGKOK - A court trial involving former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been postponed, offering him a brief reprieve in the high-profile Police Hospital fake-out case. Judges from the Supreme Court, dealing with criminal lawsuits involving political figures, have rescheduled the hearing and the submission of necessary documents by Thaksin and authorities to June 25. This delay provides Thaksin with additional time to mount his legal defence against multiple allegations. Thaksin, who is the father of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is set to miss the court appearance scheduled for this Friday. Instead, his legal representative will be present to counter claims that Thaksin feigned critical illness. The allegations suggest he did so to enjoy a six-month stay in a premium ward at the Police Hospital upon his return from self-imposed exile in 2023, rather than at the Bangkok Remand Prison’s hospital. An inquiry by the Medical Council of Thailand determined that his health was not as severe as initially claimed. Despite the ongoing Police Hospital case proceedings, Thaksin also faces a separate legal challenge. He is due in the Criminal Court in July regarding a lese majeste lawsuit. This case stems from comments allegedly made in a 2015 interview where Thaksin suggested the Thai monarchy's involvement in the 2006 coup that ousted him. Under Thai law, the monarchy must remain apolitical and uninvolved in state affairs. The possibility of Thaksin evading future legal repercussions remains speculated. In 2008, he dodged sentencing by fleeing abroad and stayed in self-exile until his recent return, having not served his shortened one-year sentence. Crime Husband Seeks Justice After Wife Is Killed in Fatal Porsche Hit-and-Run
Good story, and I can see that happening here in some areas. A number of years ago now in an office mutli-story car park in BKK... I was slow looking for a space, the driver behind me impatient, over-took and hit the side of my car... we stopped - she didn't get out of the car, clearly afraid of the 'bad foreigner'... ... so I just went back to my car and called my insurance... within 10mins about 20 office staff (male and female) were there talking with her... probably all her colleagues... Fortunately, none of them showed any aggression to me... But, I can see how things in 'some areas' (delicate wording) could get out of control quickly.... Regarding your motorcycle story... very similar happened to me... I saw a single motorcyclist sway into the central reservation then wipe out... so I stopped to help. Then locals came out... the difference was that I asked them to help, call and ambulance, stop traffic (with the light on their phones - it was night time) etc... but, they could easily have behaved differently. So... I do understand the 'mob rule' thing... But, I still dont see it as an excuse.... Hit-and-Run is just that, unless a mob forms and then driving straight to a police station 'could' be justified... in this story of the Porsche driver, no way... -
