Where should I be lookin?

cheers

Start from here: To land a plane, Suvarnabhumi airport charges 1820$.

Narita charges 8200$ for the same. Then figure out why there are no low cost airlines flying to Tokyo.

Traditionally, the lowest fares are on United, Biman Bangladesh, North West and Air India. With friends like that, you can have a ride half the price Thai or JAL/ANA charge.

Yeah, I agree. My experience has found that UAL or NWA will typically be lowest nonstop. You might get a decent fare on Cathay with a plane change in Hong Kong.

I've flown that route about 10-12 times over the last few years and if you can get a fare in the $650 USD range these days, you're doing pretty good. I would expect something in the range of $650-$1200, possibly higher, depending on when you plan to fly.

I just flew that route this past weekend on a JAL 747 and found the economy seating to be small, cramped and very uncomfortable, relative to something like a UAL 777 or AA 777. You might be willing to pay a few bucks extra for a less crowded flight and a decent seat.

PS.

If first time to Tokyo, then you should also read up on getting from Narita to the city via bus or train, as well as negotiating your way around the city on the train/subway system.
