It's surely a sign that the economy is not in great shape - we had unwelcome visitors at 4am this morning, entered through a first floor window only ten feet from where we were sleeping and left by the front door - we never heard a thing! Only small easily disposed of items were taken, a watch, camera and a mobile but the hassle of it all plus the feeling of being violated was pretty bad. Suggest you all take a few minutes out and triple check the security side of things, even those windows that seem like they are impossible to access from the outside, folks out there are getting hungry!

Thanks for that warning!

I am really waiting every day when it's my/our turn here in Kathu.

Luckily I've got some kind of protection(you've met them)but in case I am not at home they will protect my wife with all they can do.

Yes, it's an ongoing problem. Just recently we beefed up the security on many of our rental apartment aluminium french windows by installing drop locks inside each door. This works well, but we still had one intrusion on Nanai 2 about 3 months ago when the thief destroyed the aluminium door frame. There was little of value in the house (small enough to pocket) and as far as we & the rentor know nothing was taken. Still we had an expensive door replacement. This can only be a sign of hardship times .... ahead.

As you well know, CM, it happened to us too. Patong is getting terrible. If there is no high season it's going to look like a bad post nuclear war movie. Every man, woman and ladyboy for himself!

Glad you weren't hurt. It will take some time to sleep well again. :o

Well, at least there seem to be many more policeman around at night anymore.

Last night around 11PM, there were 7 of them stopping everyone between Chalong and Rawai on one side of the road and 2 on the other side.

With that many cops just checking ID's and looking for whatever???, I'm sure they have lots to work on the crimes, aye?

I don’t think it matters where you live. We had an attempt just after dusk 2 weeks ago in the middle of the business district in an upcountry city.

There were plenty of people out on the streets, people walking around inside our house and shops trading all around us. The thieves had nearly bust through the upstairs rear security grill before they were heard. That rear window was in common view to people on the back streets.

The cops were called but the thieves were long gone. New upgraded grilles and other measures have now been fitted.

I'm just kind of agreeing with gerd.  If you have the space, get yourself at least one or more dogs (preferably big ones) and that will keep away 90% of the lazy burglars.  Also make sure to train your dogs not to eat anything from anyone unless it is from you or someone they trust.  This will stop the poisoning factor.

Farang couple that live in Nai Hahn, went for a drink in Tamarind, Rawai, got home their house was ransacked and the safe was stolen.

Take care

Stuandchris, was that recently? We heard of a similar robbery in Nai Harn but that was back in January (and on a "secure, gated" development) - obviously inside job.

Woke up this morning to find my wife's motorbike (Wave 125) gone from our car park. Anyone seeing a blue wave with distinctive number 777 & black alloy wheels, send me a PM. Thanks.

One of my neighbors in Andaman Hills (Patong) was burgled last week. The thief (thieves?) popped out a sliding glass door, which is very easy in the units that use the original sliding glass.

Yes, we have had that sort of entry. So so easy to unscrew the 2 screws, pull off the end strut, and slide out the glass. Takes about 1 minute, no noise. Solution is to cover the screw heads with some sort of epoxy glue.
